I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts nowadays, mainly because politics and sports are too depressing. This one popped in my feed today:

“When Betty Jones, 65, and Kathryn Crigler, 81, are brutally attacked in a 1990 home invasion, the tiny community of Starkville, MS is left living in fear. Decades pass, until a detective devotes himself to cracking the case using new technology.”

I guess the Cold Case podcast repurposed the audio from an A&E show called “Murder on the Bayou.” Which is hilarious given Starkville’s lake of bayous, rivers, etc.

True crime freak here too. Cold Case Files is in my cache, but haven't checked it lately, so thanks for the heads up.
Recently listened to The Problem with Erik and it was pretty good.

That happened in the 2 story house across the street from Ricks. The guy that did it was serving time in MS for another unrelated crime and they got a cigarette butt out of his cell to compare the DNA that had been gathered at the original crime scene.

I'm also a true crime fanatic. Discovery ID is my default, but I watch them whenever and wherever I can. I just watched most of the new Documentary on Netflix called "Gone Girls" and I'll listen to this too. Thanks!

While I agree bayous are more associated with the MS delta and Louisiana if you’ve ever been in the Noxubee Refuge or north of Starkville up Hwy 389 around Hwy 50 and north and south of there, there is a lot of low lying land, creeks, and small lakes feeding into the Tombigbee River.
Some people would call that swamps and bayous.

Yea, but that's like calling a murder in Foley murder on the Gulf. I guess the name sounded better than Murder Across from the College bar with the zebra painted party bus.

Knew Mrs. Jones ( Betty)what a beautiful lady. Her two kids were grads of MSU in late 70ies.

Will have to check this out. This happened when I was a student, but I have no recollection of the event.

I don't remember this one either. I do remember the two students who were killed in 93/94 ish. Also remember the lady who was killed working in newly opened fast food restaurant around that same time. Arby's?

The 2 students was in 92. She was a waitress at cheers. I knew them, not well though. I thought this thread would be about that case as I don't believe they really had enough concrete evidence on the guy they put in jail for it.

I literally lived around the corner from the Labor Day murders, and I don't think it really even phased me. The two incidents in December of '92 really put a scare into the student population. I followed the case against Jerome Manning (the guy convicted of murdering the students) and the whole thing always seemed sketchy. Wasn't the Arby's murder a murder-suicide by an ex?
