The Beatles come to America in Feb 1964, and the quantity, quality and diversification of great music produced over the subsequent 10 years, IMO, has never been matched.

I’ll submit a couple:

- Urge Overkill (massive wall of rock & roll sound, should have been a much bigger act)

- Siouxsie and the Banshees drummer Budgie (I dare you to listen to ‘Cities in Dust’… Budgie is lit )

- Gary Moore … real guitarists know who he is

- Robbie Blunt (guitarist on Robert Plant’s first three solo albums - ie. the good ones)

- The Donnas - a better all-girl rock act has yet to emerge … guitarist Allison Robertson is a tremendous player , and she’s incredibly hot

Gary Moore was a giant in the guitar world just finished his biography also Paul Chapman was an awesome guitarist that no one talks about ufo is a favorite of mine

BOC came to my mind as well. Great live band and when talking about underrated and guitarists Buck Dharma Roeser's name never comes up. I'm not saying he is Jimi Hendrix or anything like that but BOC and Roeser definitely fly under the radar.

The Tubes were a wild but tight band with some great talent like Vince Welnick and Mingo Lewis. Their live shows were crazy with lots of props and costumes. I always thought they never got the accolades they deserved because the music industry and general public didn't know what to make of them.

Rob Grill of the Grass Roots.

The Grass Roots never had a #1 single but only 9 bands in history have had more songs on the Billboard 100.

The Plugz and The Cruzados. Two bands that nobody has ever heard of but they caught the attention of and were fancied by some of music’s biggest names. My buddy has gigged with everyone as a result and he never had to get a real 9-5 as a result. All in all, not bad.

The Mats were my first thought along with these guys. Bolan was a genius who was taken too soon.

One of the truly great and relatively unknown bands of the late 80s. They kind of were the Madchester Movement at that time.

This video was their first show after a 15 year breakup. The energy in the crowd is insane. Very few bands have rabid following like that. The Roses had one for a good reason.

When jane and I moved to Lancaster from Chicago one winter (5 years ago?) my concert bro punk rock Tom stored my Miata in his race trailer for the winter. I flew out in spring to grab the car and took him to the Orwells show downtown as a thank you. One of the BEST shows I’ve ever seen (Thalia hall?) I LOVE this band
