VW is notorious for elec systems that are crap designs. My buddy’s sister had a Passat that had seat heaters and backup lights on same circuit. When the seat heater crapped out it cost $1400 to get the backup lights to function to pass inspection.

Not quite related, but my old Passat’s AC was so inaccessible that it cost 12 hours’ labor just to pull the front end to access it to replace the compressor, just out of warranty, and a week before I moved from VA to Chicago.
Exactly... To replace the battery in the Q7 you need to remove the entire driver's seat.

My strategy with cats has always been buy 3-4 year old with less than 10k miles/year, pay cash, and drive it 8-10 years since I drive maybe 8k a year. I just screwed to pooch on this one

I just bought a 2018 320i x drive with only 13,000 miles on it. I put just under 100 miles a day on my commuter car. I like it so far.

I passed down my 2012 Volvo S60 to my 16 YO daughter. It will be a good first car for her at almost 170k miles. I got all factory service, so it it is in great shape.
Used to be a Saab guy too, especially the 900 Turbos back in the early '80s, can't figure out exactly why but they were way different for sure.

2018 Porsche Macan S 31K now considering selling, bought it with 20K locally here in Bucks County. My wife drives a 2018 Volvo XC60 T6
316 HP, 295 lb-ft torque fun car to drive with better low-end torque than my Porsche.

Proud to say my wife and I both drive Ford. Too hard to forget the stories my dad and father in law told relating to WWII.

2021 Subaru Outback XT Onyx. 15,000 miles. Decided that miles on this vehicle didn’t need to be rationed like earlier ones. Have fun inferring all my behaviors from my choice in car.

2011 Audi Q7 with 105k miles, I've had it for 8 years... I would not recommend it to anyone. Electrical system nightmare, the windshield wiper motor cost me $1300 to replace.

I just want to limp it until next July (when my NYU daughter's education comes off the board) and get myself a slightly used Acura MDX

Ran my 2003 MDX to 215,000 miles with almost no repair costs until a few things started failing and it wasn’t worth fixing. Loved it.

Currently in a 2022 Hyundai Palisade Caligraphy, and it’s awesome for the price. I think you’d have to spend $30k more on another manufacturer to get the same options and quality. 35k miles in and still love it as much as the day I got it.

2020 Lexus UX250H. 28k miles so far. Wanted good gas mileage since I have a long daily commute (I get 38 mpg with it).

Like it a lot overall, main dislike is it's not quiet (road and wind noise) and very small trunk space.

i know a few people with the new palisade and they all love them. Do you know how the 2018 and 19 versions are reviewed 4+ years out?

2017 Tesla S 100D. < 60,000 miles on it. Drives great. Very low maintenance cost / experience. Love not going to the gas station.

I have heard the same things about Audis. I prefer Toyota or Lexus over German or British cars which tend to have higher maintenance and service issues.

Range on yours?

330 miles. As Tesla instructs, I have it set for 285 miles (theoretical range). The real range depends on the driving conditions, etc. Traffic and stopping and starting eats up the battery. On the highway I can get close to the theoretical range. Around town I would say I get ~ 65% of that.

Do you own a road-trip car too?

Long story. At one point we were all electric. Then wife was T boned by a S American national w no insurance. She opted for an ICE replacement.

I would drive my car on a trip. Earlier this year I did an 8 hr round trip using the Tesla charging network.
2020 Subaru; 35,000 miles now. We love it but there are so many automatic systems that control stuff (including the drivers) we named it HAL after the computer in the movie 2001 a Space Odyssey.
