When we were working it was between 7 and 8 most nights. Now that we are retired it’s normally between 5:30 and 6.

Lived in Texas and Mississippi the last 45 years. Eating time has always been 7pm. Go figure.

On average probably 7 for myself, but 6:30 for my family.

I cannot eat supper before 6pm, but wife and kids are hungry by 5:30. It’s pretty common for them to be finished by the time I start.

no earlier than 7 because its too damn hot and humid and if I've been outside for more than 15 minutes in the evening, it will take me that long to cool down and then take a shower and be ready to eat.

On a serious note, there seems to be a growing body of evidence for the health benefits of intermittent fasting.

Or dinner, as city folks call it. Interesting that Mississippi is one of the very latest; wonder why?

We have been married 26 years this past July. We have never really had a 9-5 job but when we or she is or we were off work did it was usually between 5:30 and 6:30. She works 2-10 so we usually eat around 10:30 when she gets home.

I would say farming has a lot to do with later eating times for southern states. DC is probably due to traffic congestion and getting home later. Also, CA and NV would think they would be later due to clubbing/entertainment environment. Florida and Arizona are heavy with retirees, so I would expect them to be among the earliest (early bird specials and no work).

I think the greater concern is why it's not always called supper. Dinner is taken between 11-1 especially on Sundays after church. Supper is any meal taken between 530 and 9 PM. After that, if you are up, that's a midnight meal.

Dinner at night just sounds so high minded...........

During the week it's normally around 8-9 for me and the wife. We get the kids fed, homework, to/from soccer practice, etc. and off to bed before we worry with our supper

Can confirm. Lunch is later as well.

We're in Barcelona now. A local friend invited us over for lunch. Without thinking it through, I asked if we should arrive at noon. He looked at me like I had three heads and then suggested 2:00 PM instead.
Barcelona is amazing.

I really loved the food in Granada (and that ain’t the one near Duck Hill).

The bar & tapas culture in Spain was and hopefully still is outstanding. I ordered a beer and it came with a small plate (simple food like eggs isn’t unusual). You can order Jamon Iberico too.

I had such a filling lunch that I couldn’t have dinner until around 10 pm… prime time in Spain.

Farmers work later and therefore eat later.

Up vote X5 (10's a little much). Supper's at supper and dinner is at lunch and some Co-op's are closed after dinner on Wednesday and some are closed after dinner on Thursday but opened on Friday. All are closed by dinner on Saturday.

If you want to go out to eat at any of the popular restaurants in Flowood on a Saturday evening, you'd better be there by 5, by 5:30, there's an hour wait.

When we first moved to Jxn almost 30 years ago, and many of the restaurants were actually in the city (Scrooge's, Bravo, etc), folks wouldn't even go out to eat until 8.

Not talking about the weekend....Sunday - Thursday, what time do y'all sit down and eat the last meal of the day?

Because in mississippi, the good ole baptist boys told the old lady to hold up the cornbread while they hit the jug out by the barn where nobody can see 'em

What's your issue? Religion or farmers that like to drink a little before supper?

This has near about caused divorce in my household. I prefer closer to 7. Wife prefers 5. Compromise is obviously 6. But with kid activities, you almost have to do 5 in order for them to have some energy for whatever they have going on, or brave it and eat later.

When I eat at 5, I'm in the kitchen again at 10 stuffing my face. Constant battle. First world problems to the maximum.
sounds like too many carbs and not enough protein/fats

We’re a slave to after school activities so we don’t really have a “regular” time. For example, we ate at 4:45 Monday “night” to eat after school, but before my daughter’s flute lesson. Last night we ate at 7:15 because both kids had activities that kept them at school until 6:30.

We eat late. Between our schedules and our kids schedules we usually eat between 7:30-8:00

A lot of older people eat mid to late afternoon. Their calorie intake requirements are not as grand but they also don't take online surveys.
