I'm sure changes are needed on the football staff. I think Shane is a smart guy, and I do trust him.

But Ray Tanner, for all the good he's done for our university, needs to go. Throw him a parade. Make him an ambassador, whatever, but we need a sharp, cunning, cutting-edge AD who's not a yes man. If we get that, I do believe positive change will occur.

Overall I like your post. Not sure RT is a problem completely. Based on our history in football, we haven't had very good AD'S if our record decides that.

Genuine question for all the "fire everyone" people: What elite coaches do you think are blowing up Tanners phone trying to come be a coordinator here??

We win 8 last year and yall want Satt gone. You get your wish and now we have loggains and a 5 win team. Who do you honestly expect is going to walk thru that door when we fire him?

Nobody every said fire everyone. White has to be a foregone conclusion. The D has just not been good. Hardesty has likewise been given a chance to prove himself and the position just hasn't produced. I'd toss Teasley in there b/c the OL was just so, so, so, so very bad this year. My OP was probably a little reactionary about Loggains, but the play calling in the last 2 games was simply awful. At times it didn't even feel like we were trying to pick up yards. Almost felt as though we were content to chew up a minute or so of clock, not turn it over and punt. It was just puzzling. We shouldn't fire him, but if he wanted to go back to Arkansas, I wouldn't try too hard to talk him out of it.

If I were Beamer, I'd focus in on DC and OL coach. If those 2 can be upgraded, that would have a seriously positive impact.

Muschamp left Beamer a crap roster…especially on the OL. Muschamp just didn’t recruit the OL or QB positions well at all. That’s not an easy fix. If we didn’t have 4-5* commits littered in the 23/24 classes I’d be concerned.
I don't disagree that Champ left behind a poor, unbalanced roster, but I'm seeing nothing from Beamer that screams championship calibre. Additionally, look at Beamer's recruiting it's just as unbalanced.

I think it's too much to ask what "elite" coaches are waiting out there.

"Dependable" and "competent" would be good for an upgrade at some positions.

But if we're waiting around for "elite", it'll be a long wait.

I sure hope that Beamer cleans house. But I question whether he has the cahoonas to do more than window dressing with a scapegoat. Hope I'm wrong. I'm pulling for him. Next season won't be easy. But if things fall apart, I hope that our BOT or whoever makes the football HC hiring decision will follow the Florida State blueprint (Norvell) and hire a successful mid-major FBS Head Coach. We've only done that once that I'm aware of (Morrison) and had successful results.

Problem with going the mid-major route is that it's a total roll of the dice. The previous successful head coach at Memphis was a total bust at the P5 level. You just never can tell. Look at Napier at UF so far. There just aren't any guarantees.

It is true that there are no guarantees. All you can do is minimize the risk.

Success, even at a lower level, is better than no experience, imo.

Agree. I doubt any elite guy would be lining up to work for Beamer. We just need to target experienced guys who have proven themselves to be competent and reliable.

Our current OL coach an internal promotion from the analyst position and was at North Carolina Central University prior to that.

Our OC was a TE coach who had a disastrous record as OC in the NFL.

Our DC came from WKU.

You might get lucky and strike gold every once in a while with a hire like the ones above, but you can't build an entire staff that way.

You reactionary after a loss? Shocker.

White is the only one I would look to possibly move. I know many of you don't agree but there is a lot of talent and experience on that side of the ball.

We struggled at LB most of the year, particularly in pass coverage. It took him 8-9 games to figure our Bam Martin Scott is a stud and the answer. The team turned around defensively when he started playing heavy snaps.

Loggains and Teasley get a pass. You bring any OC in here without an OL and one running back, they aren't going to be successful.

Look what a highly paid OC has done in the upstate. We wanted Riley here. He would have failed miserably this season with this personnel and injuries. Ya'll would have been asking for his head and questioning the hire.

I have faith that Beamer will right the ship. If he's unsuccessful over the next several years, we may need to make a tough decision.

You tell me - Has Ray made one good hire? The man is downright incompetent. We are mired in mediocrity.
He has made 5 hires. 1 awful one, one good one that didn't work out in baseball, Kingston was very questionable. Jury is still out on the Beamer hire. Love the Paris hire.

Florida has a well respected AD. How many bad football hires has he made over the last 20 years? It happens to the best of them.

You, ok with mediocrity? Shocker.
The issues on the OL have less to do about the coach and more to do with the available players. We were running TEs with the OL due to all the injuries. I don't think you can assess someone's job performance in that situation. We need better players on the OL...period. We're finally recruiting at a very high level there, I don't think you do anything to potentially screw that up unless someone like Sam Pittman becomes available and forces himself on you, which isn't happening.

Here's who I would get rid of:

MoHard - There's just been absolutely nothing even mediocre about our RBs. He is the primary recruiter for Hill. My guess is Beamer has just as much, or more, to do with Hill than MoHard. He's just been a non factor.
Day - I know nothing about S&C. But I do know we've had too many guys getting hurt, and too many games where out guys look like a weaker team. That's literally his job.
White - Yeah, good games against Vandy, UK, and Clem....3 bad offenses. He's had 3 years of progressively bad defense. I still like Chris Hampton here.
Wright - This is more about just eliminating the TE coach position all together. He's coached RBs, so if Beamer thinks he's valuable just move him. Beamer or Lembo can take TEs.
Hire another secondary coach...we've got one guy coaching corners and safeties. With our pass D struggles, it's time to get some help back there.

Regarding Teasley, is there any chance we would have pursued him for the OL job if he wasn't already working in the building? Any at all? He was an analyst for us who was previously at North Carolina Central. OL is just a vital, vital position. It makes all the difference in the world between an effective offense and a disastrous offense. You can have all the skill players in the world, but without an OL, it's meaningless.

I know we had injuries, but we had arguably one of the worst OL in all of P5. Honestly, how much better would it have been if we were healthy? None of the players we had injured were of the caliber to elevate us from one of the worst in all of P5 to good. Beyond that, we saw little impact from coaching over the course of the season. You have injuries, ok. Coach up the players you have. Our OL struggled from Game 1 to Game 12 with even the most basic of blocking techniques. Given what I saw, even if we were healthy on OL, with the coaching we had, we still would have been pretty bad, or at least not good.

If Teasley had any kind of track record as an OL coach, I might feel differently, but he was a lazy internal promotion. When you coach your unit to the one of the worst in all of P5, I just think an upgrade has to be considered.

Agree with all the others.

18, I don't disagree. But as Lurker said, it minimizes the risk. Hiring Beamer was a monumental risk. If Napier was offered to us today, I'd take him in a skinny minute.

I've promoted internally many times instead of searching externally. Obviously Beamer saw something in him he liked. When you talk about a track record, maybe someone like Eric Wolford? He's got a terrific track record. He also coaches a unit at Bama that's only given up 2 fewer sacks than we have.

I'd much rather roll the dice on a guy who has a track record of success being able to fix a problem than roll the dice on a guy who has no track record. Alabama's OL play also improved throughout the year. Ours did not.

So your opinion is that Teasley is the absolute pinnacle and best we can achieve for OL coach? There's nobody in college football who is attainable for us who would also be an upgrade?

By the way, winning and losing aside, Beamer is an embarrassment on the sideline. He needs to act like a Head Coach rather than a damn Head Cheerleader.

Some of you may want to take a deep breath on the impact a few highly rated OL recruits are going to have. OL is one of the hardest positions for a high school player to adjust to in college. In high school, most highly regarded OL are physical freaks that dominate much smaller D linemen by physically overpowering them. College OL play is all about technique, hand usage, footwork and reacting to the D lineman. The D linemen in college are generally equally sized and much quicker and faster than any player a high school kid has ever seen, not to mention having to adjust to the size and speed of the blitzing LBs in college. It generally takes a couple years for a high school O lineman to adapt and learn the position in college if they are ever going to actually be good.

Until Beamer can stack classes of highly rated O linemen so that each year there are redshirt sophomores and juniors ready to step into the positions the seniors leave, the OL is not going to be markedly better. Coaching and development are at least as important as recruiting rankings on the OL.

Right. We have a great OL class lined up for next year, but their impact won't be felt until their second season at least. Just too much of adjustment. This is why coaching is so crucial and why I think we should consider moving on from Teasley.

Don't forget, you are assuming all the commits stay committed. I'll believe they are coming when they sign the LOI. You can rest assured that the other programs that were recruiting them before are still going after them and unless they really love USC on its own merits, the football program isn't much of an attraction right now.

In terms of sacks they got better at the end of the year. Clemson was the best DL we faced and gave up 2. Gave up 2 to UK and 0 to Vandy. Much better than what we were doing to start the year.

There's no way to tell with Teasley. My guess is Eric Wolford would have similar results with this group we had. Everybody starts somewhere.

New DC. New OC. New OL coach.

White's D has played better as of late, but you can't ignore the overall disaster the D has been for the majority of the season.

Give Loggains a soft exit to return to Arkansas. I think he is to be credited with Rattler's improved play, but the bottom line is the offensive scoring is down from last year and we ran last year's OC out of town. The play calling the last couple of weeks has been nothing short of criminal, continuing to run plays that have zero chance of working. Throwing the ball behind the LOS over and over and over again.

Teasley gotta go. He was a questionable hire at the very best.
look i dont disagree with your conclusions, teasley is by far the worst coach people keep making excuses for

but what in the world makes you think any coordinator with pedigree would EVER want to work for Shane? There is zero evidence he can get someone with pedigree

also right now this program has to be viewed as a sinking ship, no way you come work for 1 year, unless you are someone like lets say Derek Mason, you want to come work 1 year, make a few million bucks, knowing you will not have a problem landing somewhere

I’ve been in Loggains’ corner most of the season, but with the season on the line the last 2 weeks, his play calling was utterly atrocious. He made Satterfield look competent these last 2 weeks.
Don't say that... Certain people would take that and run with it and Satterfield doesn't deserve their approbation. This year's performance at Nebraska proves that.

Total Offense ....69th out of 130 teams..... BLAH
Rushing Offense ....126th...........HORRENDOUS
Tackles Allowed for Loss..... 125th.....HORRENDOUS
Sacks Allowed.......118th......HORRENDOUS

Total Defense....94th......POOR
Passing Yards Allowed......106th.... HORRENDOUS
Team Sacks......97th.....POOR
Team Tackles For Loss.....112th....HORRENDOUS

Penalties ....115th.....HORRENDOUS
Penalty Yards 83rd......POOR

If there was a metric to compare injuries among teams, I suspect the result would be ugly.

The good news is that one can objectively see where problems are. The bad news is that Shane Beamer is doing the hiring.
So, what I get from this is that, despite being terrible in the offensive line and deficient at RB and two of our receiver spots, we managed to finish in the middle of the pack yardage-wise anyway. That's not exactly a scathing indictment of the OC.

If you look further down the thread, it was updated when ALL the teams had their 12th game. Our offense actually finished 81st. In my book, that's poor.

My observation perceived a unit that would not excel anyplace in the Power Five, maybe not anyplace in the FBS. I would also point to the rankings in sacks allowed and tackles for loss. Those are drive-killers.

If Rogains returns, you can write off next season. That chap couldn't run an offense against senior citizens.
