This might be behind a paywall, but former Northwestern football coach Pat Fitzgerald on Thursday filed a lawsuit against the school seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages after he was fired in July over allegations of hazing in the Wildcats program: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/10/05/pat-fitzgerald-northwestern-lawsuit/

How much appetite does Pat have for all of these juicy allegations to play out in public? Allegations seem credible so his best defense is ‘I didn’t know.’ That typically does not work out well for people who are supposed to be in charge….

I think for all parties it will be interesting to see who has the stomach for this all playing out in a public forum. I am not sure the University wants to get drug through the mud by association or players want to have disclosed to the public what was done to them. Fitzgerald is looking for some money obviously as it won't be easy getting another job after this fiasco. See if the University settles out of court. Asking $130,000,000 in damages. Had $68 million left on his contract. Does NU offer him $50 million to settle it all? Also what is NU's liability to players suing the university. Yikes.

And players suing Fitzgerald….

Dunno, but PF needs to go on the offensive to at least have a shot at a settlement , which is where this probably ends up.

I think Fitz will get all of that $68 million if he insists on it and is patient. His reputation is shot. He won’t coach CFB again after a hazing scandal. He has nothing to lose by disclosure of evidence at trial.

NW is the entity with the most to lose.

DJ Durkin didn’t skip a beat finding another job after his scandal.

Let's hope CJF removes Pats card from his Rolodex before Manny moves on... Then again Pat would be available real cheap...

Yeah, no thanks. I’m no fan of Fitzball and he certainly doesn’t fit with the recruiting glitz Franklin aspires to like Manny’s pressure D.

Man, I’m old and my memory is shot. Who is DJ Durkin?
He had a player die of heat exhaustion at MD. After the fact, it came out that he and his staff were mistreating players, which included forcing them to eat junk food until they vomited as a punishment.

He’s the wrong color unfortunately for him. My guess zero paid to him. It will be fun to watch my theory unfold (msu)

I hope he gets all 130 million. They already ruined his reputation. NW conducts an investigation, concludes he didn’t know and agrees to a suspension. Some people complain and without any further investigation and no new information, the new President placates the PC crowd and unilaterally fires him.

I’m not worried about Fitz. He’ll get an 8 figure settlement. He’s financially secure. The Big Ten network or Fox will give him a job.

Sounds like what outsiders said about JVP

That’s a reach. Sandusky was not employed by Joe or a part of his staff when his stuff happened. Also pretty sure Joe was against him having access to facilities but was overruled. The incidents here were committed by football players on the roster and under the purview of the head coach and his responsibility. Meyer got in trouble for the actions of his assistant but that’s because he actually knew about them.

Don't confuse me with the facts.... the Sandusky affair taught me not to indict and convict based on media reports. I've always respected Fitz, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

Urban didn’t have near the baggage. He feigned health issues (so it’s thought) to cover up an affair. That’s not mistreating the young men trusted to your care.
How about rostering a potential serial killer? And having Tebow room with him to try and keep him on the straight and narrow?

I’m sure it was all just a misunderstanding.

In that case, Belichek is just as bad. I doubt either coach knew all that much about Hernandez’s personal issues.

To some extent you are correct. However, when he was arrested for the murder in NE, I remember them doing some documentary type articles and shows and one of the FL assistants (who wanted to remain anonymous) at the time said that when he went home on breaks, the coaching staff held their breath because they knew he was involved with shady characters and gangs back in Connecticut and they didn’t know what trouble he may get into. Meyer apparently did have Tebow be Hernandez’s roommate in an attempt to be a good influence on him. As for Belichek, he most certainly knew there were character issues with Hernandez when they drafted him. That’s why Hernandez fell in the draft. Many teams didn’t want to take him because of that.

Yeah. Levon Chisley. 🤷‍♂️

Bad characters wind up at all kinds of programs. I imagine it’s tough because coaches want to see the good in kids. It’s convenient when they’re good players and also speaks to the altruism of being a coach and helping develop kids.
