No… top four teams don’t change. Just their order based on playoff results. An awful lot will have to happen for PSU to go from #11 to #5. My guess is probably #8 if they win.

Dismiss logic and positive outcomes. Penn State always reverts to f*ck us.

Ain't no way no how OSU beats UGa. UGa will pummel the snot out of them(at least I am hoping they do). I think it will be UGa vs scUM in the Championship Game.
I’m not sure on that. Having a month to prepare changes things. I wouldn’t count out OSU.

Either way I’m looking forward to Saturday and staying at home to watch the games, having a nice dinner and being in bed by 10pm.

I think experience counts in these games. Michigan was there last year, made the necessary personnel adjustments to compete with a team like UGA. I think UM beats TCU by wearing them down in the 2nd half unless TCU can somehow rattle McCarthy and contain him in the pocket. OSU must get out ahead early to make UGA play from behind or OSU could find themselves getting curb stomped. Definitely watching both games this year.

Why are all of you ignoring Notre Dame, who according to their fan base, came down from heaven in order to grace us by their presence?

Did anyone play 2 top 4 (ranked now, not at beginning of year) and beat them? I think we know the answer. I am not saying we should be 3 but maybe higher ranked teams (than PSU) would not have faired any better? 😁

Penn State hasn't beaten a ranked team since the 2019 season.
Hopefully that changes next week.

Despite that, thanks to Michigan and OSU both having outstanding seasons, they find themselves in the Rose Bowl. For that, they are extraordinarily blessed.

Agree. Like Georgia to win. But if Munster gets them out front early , not sure Georgia can play catch up.

There’s no way Penn State ends up at #3. Alabama plays K St and Clemson plays Tennessee. All 4 of them are currently ranked above Penn State so their winners will likely be #5 and #6. Then USC, (also ahead of PSU), has an all but guaranteed win over Tulane so they’d be #7. That’s leaves PSU’s ceiling as likely #8 assuming they get by Utah.

Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State greatly benefited from the Big Ten being horrible. I think all are legit top 10 teams but I don't think any other Big Ten teams were top 40. Lot of layups for the top 3 teams.

No doubt that Penn State will not be ranked #3 no matter what happens in the Bowl games.

However, in 1971 Colorado was ranked #3 at 9-2 because its only 2 losses were to #1 NU and @2 OU. Penn State , 11-1 after routing SWC champ Texas 30-6 in the Cotton Bowl, was ranked 5th.

Addition: For those claiming Penn State was stomped its 2 losses to UM and OSU, look at the scores of Colorado's losses to NU and OU: 45-17 and 31-7. Certainly didn't impact voter opinions.

Colorado also beat LSU - at LSU - and beat Ohio State in Columbus.
Both were top 10 teams at the time, though OSU lost a couple at end of season and dropped out of top 20.

Good point about LSU.

Not impressed with beating a 6-4 Buckeye team that dropped 3 straight to end the year. Certainly no better win for Colorado than Penn State's win over Purdue this fall.

I was not very clear in stating my point; I was not trying to imply that Penn State deserves to be ranked #3 this season. I was trying to show that a team can lose to the top 2 teams in the nation, then beat everyone else on the schedule including a Bowl game, and be rewarded by the polls.

The fact that Colorado was stomped by 28 and 24 points didn't harm their esteem by poll voters who placed them ahead of 11-1 Alabama and 11-1 Penn State.

Because they annually are the most over-hyped, underperforming group of ‘holier than thou’ fake ‘fans’ who cannot name one player since Brady Quinn and has never set foot on campus. Losers!!!

CU was ranked 7th prior to the bowls games. Three of the four teams (other than kNU and OU) ranked ahead of them lost and UGa squeaked by an unranked UNC. Also helped that kNU and OU stomped two of those teams (Bama and Auburn).

If Penn State beats Utah and Ohio State and Michigan play in the championship game, should Penn State be ranked 3rd?
  1. I don't think anybody's going to beat Georgia
  2. PSU is an underdog vs Utah
I'll be happy with a PSU win and a top 10 finish. A loss would be horrible because Franklin is already 0 for his last 11 vs top 10 teams. It ain't a good look.

0-11 is not elite, is that correct? (asking for apologists)

This needs to be worded differently. We haven't beaten a team that ended the season ranked since 2019. We beat two teams last year that were ranked when we played them (Wisconsin and Auburn), but they weren't ranked at the end of the year.
