Blaming someone else, in this case the Commonwealth, is what nine-year olds do. How long will it take these dunderheads to realize that the money ain't coming from Harrisburg?

Years ago, there was a faction in the Legislature that wanted to dramatically increase the funding. They approached PSU's leadership and told them that as a quid pro quo there would be more accountability to Harrisburg, similar to what existed in other states. They were flat out rejected.

I can see a situation in the not too distant future where the Commonwealth does sustantially increase the funding of PSU. Can't imagine many people will be happy if it happens.

Barry is once again the only candidate or trustee that is taking the time to update us on the BOT meetings. Let's get him on the ballot so that he can participate in the coverage, discussions/debates during the election process. If you need a ballot request one at the link below and it should arrive within a day, usually later the same day. Be sure to check your spam folder for the ballot.

Barry J Fenchak class of 1984

So, where will the Legislature get the money? (this is a loaded question by the way)

The nomination process is coming down to the wire. I've heard through the grape vine that Barry is very close to 250 so we need a final push to put him substantially over. So, could each of you that nominated Barry contact your Penn State family and friends and ask them to nominate Barry? Yes, Barry may be outspoken, but remember, you're not asking for their vote, you are asking them to nominate Barry so that he can participate in the election process including media events. They can make up their minds about voting for him during the election process.

So, I've identified a few of you from an earlier thread on this topic who appeared to be supporting Barry. Could you each contact a few people and ask for their help? Be sure to send them the link below.

If I missed any I apologize and ask for your support by nominating or by asking others to nominate Barry J Fenchak Class of 1984

Request BOT nomination ballot

EDIT: Could you post a screenshot of your receipt or send one to Barry. This way he can keep count. If you'd like to contact Barry or send him your receipt directly his email is: [email protected]

How much does State funding need to increase for FOI to become a player?

yes Tioga, .

Time and Date Submitted:
February 17, 2022 09:19 (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)

Have a grandson, daughter and son in law all graduates. this weekend will have them submit for Barry.
Thanks!
BTW, you don't need to be a graduate. If you took any regular class at any Penn State location or on-line and am no longer a student you are eligible. By regular, I mean a class that could be part of a degree, not a workshop or other adult learning type class.

Put it this way, if what I think might happen happens, PSU will no longer be "state related." Will it happen? Probably not, but the elements seem to be in place.

So then they can call themselves the University of Pennsylvania. And we can change our diplomas to reflect that.

That's nice.

Loaded answer: borrow, tax.
Fair enough and correct.

It might best to eliminate a number of commonwealth campuses. Sell off the properties (if they can). Focus the remaining commonwealth campuses in the areas where the population can support it. Of the 19 commonwealth campuses, only three have seen an increase in students since 2010. Seven have seen a decrease by over 40% (although that data is a couple of years old) There is no reason that a student can't attend a community college rather than a branch campus. It will be a first step.

Interesting idea. We don't hear much about the branch campuses. Wonder if and which are contributors to or drains on cash flow.

Been following this board for years but never really post. Used to follow Fight on State/ Audibles as well. Anyhow, years ago I took some classes at Penn State New Ken, mid-90's, but ended graduating elsewhere. If I'm reading correctly, does that qualify me for a ballot?

Well the easy answer is look at the enrollment decline and you can correlate that to population decline/ reduction in economic base for any of those given areas. I don’t know if the Univ owns the properties ( imagine they would and get local the tax exemption) but it still costs money to maintain the properties as well as faculty and staff salaries.

I would imagine there would be some pushback against this, I would imagine the universitiy,s original mission is to make education available to Pa residents. Which they can still do but would have to be in conjunction with a community college or other avenue

But if the goal is to be responsible stewards, it’s going to take a lot more than $ from Harrissuburb to get it done.

I don't know, maybe that policy should be revamped, a junior or senior that has a terrific amount of money invested in their education and college should have a vote in the direction their university
So you could have taken two branch campus classes 32 years ago and nominate, but nobody who is currently taking their 37th class can?

Sure seems like par for the short course.
