Eh, I think Ragusin pretty much wrestled the perfect match there. Should RBY have scored more? Sure, I get it, he's a two-time champ. But Ragusin was content stalling without stalling enough to get called for it and RBY was content with controlling him for the final period and a half.
Yeah, I guess, but I’m not seeing the let them up and take them down wearing down his opponents like in the past.

141 pounds: Beau Bartlett vs. Cole Mattin

First period: The opening takedown goes to Bartlett with under a minute ago as he circled in and almost had a cradle but settled for a takedown and 2-0 lead before starting a ride. That's how the first period ends.

Second period: Bartlett takes down to start the second. It took some time but he reverses Mattin for a 4-0 lead with 1:12 to go in the period. Mattin escpaes to 4-1. Second period ends with that score.

Third period: Mattin down to start third. He escapes to 4-2 and Bartlett dives right back in on a single and he works to finish it and does to 6-2 with 1:15 to wrestle. Bartlett gets legs in and has riding time nearly secured as they go off the edge. Bartlett secures the riding time point, finishes with over 1:43 of it, and wins, 7-2.

Beau Bartlett 7, Cole Mattin 2.

149 pounds: Shayne Van Ness vs. Fidel Mayora

First period: SVN quickly finishes a single leg for a 2-0 lead with about 1:05 to wrestle in the first and now he starts a ride. He rides it out.

Second period: SVN is down and escapes quickly to 3-0. He has 1:08 in riding time after getting out quickly. From neutral, he goes right at Mayora with a bit of a double leg and Mayora stumbled and SVN circled in and dove behind and on top for two and a 5-0 lead. The second period ends there.

Third period: Mayora down to start third. He escapes to 5-1. SVN right back in on a single leg and turns it into a takedown for 7-1 and he cuts for 7-2. Another quick takedown makes it 9-2 and a cut to 9-3. Takedown again for SVN to 11-3 and he's obviously rolling for bonus points here with 1:04 to wrestle. Riding time point is secured so it's actually 12-3 with a ride ongoing and Mayora called for stalling. SVN cuts to 12-4 and then shoots back in and eventually gets another takedown to 14-4 with nine seconds left. That's the final score.

Shayne Van Ness 14, Fidel Mayora 4

157 pounds: Levi Haines vs. Will Lewan

First period: Strategic first both ways and no score.

Second period: Haines escapes after eight seconds for a 1-0 lead. The second period ends at neutral with that score.

Third period: Lewan is out pretty much immediately to 1-1. Haines picks up on a single leg but Lewan fends it off and they go off the edge. Fun match here. Neutral with 1:17 to go in the third. Lewan shoots in on a double and Haines sprawls back with heavy hips and a stalemate is called. Terrific defense there by Haines. To sudden victory we go.

SV: Haines kicks away from a good Lewan shot. Lewan shoots single as Haines gets called for selling and Haines rolls through as Lewan continues driving in and Haines continues fighting it off and they go back to standing. Wow. Haines now in on a single and circles circles and gets the two. Levi Haines has beat Will Lewan 4-1 in sudden victory. WOW!

Thanks for these updates. I have taken the family for a vacation, and am unable to watch live. These are great.

Steen is not a big 10 wrestler
Just to put things in perspective. Steen was a two time PIAA champ at Reynolds. He also finished third twice. The jump from HS to college is massive. You aren’t wrong, but it isn’t like he didn’t have success prior to PSU. He had a lot of success. However, if Howard wasn’t injured, he wouldn’t be in the lineup. My concern is that Howard has now had two shoulder injuries.

165 pounds: Alex Facundo vs. Cameron Amine

First period: Facundo drops in on a double and scores the first takedown with about a minute left in the first period. Amine escapes to 2-1 late in the period, and it ends with that score.

Second period: Amine chooses down and quickly escapes to 2-2. Amine is hit with stalling and Facundo drops in on a shot but Amine fends it off well and a stalemate is called. End of three it's 2-2.

Third period: Facundo is down to start the third. He's quickly out to 3-2. Neutral with 30 seconds to go. Amine shoots in and gets in on a single Facundo scrambles Amine goes for a trip and seems to have control but no takedown and now Facundo rolls through and circles in for a takedown and he leads 5-2 and is going to upset Cameron Amine. Michigan challenges. Michigan thinks Amine had the takedown before Facundo did what he did to get two. Michigan challenged literally immediately. Upon review, a takedown is awarded to Amine and Facundo's is taken off the board. So, it's now 4-3 Facundo with 20 seconds put back on the board. Restart is Facundo down of course. He is out in a hurry and it's 4-4 with under 10 seconds left. We go to sudden victory.

Sudden victory: Neutral of course to start. Facundo is in on a single that he tried to turn into a double with 30 seconds left but Amine quickly fended it off. Facundo on another single with 15 seconds left but Amine hips back and we're headed to tiebreaker.

TB1: Facundo down first. He stands but is returned to the mat but then escapes with a roll through wth 20 seconds left. Ends there. 5-4 Facundo.

TB2: Amine down. First 10 seconds sees Facundo walk and then ride Amine off the mat. 16 seconds to go. Amine stands on the whistle but Amine finally gets out. It's 5-5, but Facundo had 14 seconds in riding time, so he upsets Cameron Amine by decision, 6-5.
