Just to put things in perspective. Steen was a two time PIAA champ at Reynolds. He also finished third twice. The jump from HS to college is massive. You aren’t wrong, but it isn’t like he didn’t have success prior to PSU. He had a lot of success. However, if Howard wasn’t injured, he wouldn’t be in the lineup. My concern is that Howard has now had two shoulder injuries.

174 pounds: Carter Starocci vs. Max Maylor

First period: Starocci strikes first with a takedown to lead 2-0. Escape and another takedown and escape equals a 4-2 Starocci lead. Starocci in on another good shot and finishes it for a 6-2 lead. That's how the first period ends.

Second period: Maylor down. Starocci starts with 1:46 in RT. He's up over 2:40 as he starts to crank Maylor over for back points and he gets them then catches him goes chest to chest and it's a fall. Time of the fall is 4:14.

184 pounds: Aaron Brooks vs. Matt Finesilver

First period: Brooks shoots, steps over, and secures a takedown but Finesilver is out in three seconds. It's 2-1 Brooks with about two minutes left in the first. A Brooks double takes some work but equals a takedown and the first period ends with a 4-1 lead.

Second period: Brooks down to start. He's out to 5-1. Brooks takedown, Finesilver escape. 7-2. Finesilver shoots, Brooks drops and counters and gets another takedown it's 9-2 after two. Brooks has 1:01 in RT.

Third period: Finesilver down and he's out. It's 9-3. Brooks front head lock and takedown to 11-3. Finesilver out to 11-4. Brooks single leg shot will require some work to finish and it's a stalemate before he does. On the restart Brooks does get his takedown to 13-4. Riding time is secured so it's 14-4. That's how it ends.

197 pounds: Max Dean vs. Brendin Yatooma

First period: Dean picks up on a single leg and trips Yatooma to the mat for a 2-0 lead a minute in. Dean needs some time but finally tilts for back points late. He leads 4-0 with 2:09 in riding time after one.

Second period: Dean is down to start. He's out about 40 seconds in. It's 5-0. And then he gets a takedown. It's 7-0. He's working on the bow and arrow now late in the period. Loses it though, and the period ends. Dean has 2:35 in RT after two.

Third period: Yatooma down to start. After a good ride Yatooma escapes to 7-1 with 51 seconds to wrestle. RT is secured so it's 8-1. Dean in on a shot but Yatooma fends it off. Dean now in on a single and gets the takedown to 10-1. That's the final

Why was that not a take down by Amine and reversal for Facundo?

@WV lion and @LionsAndBears gave you the general answer.

To be more specific in terms of terminology and the sequence:

- in real time the ref did not call a TD by Amine
- Michigan challenged, as they felt Amine got a TD
- after video review, the ref concluded that Amine had achieved a TD
- when a ref changes a call due to video review, they use the video to determine when the uncalled, or incorrectly called, situation took place
- ANYTHING that happened after that time is considered "dead time," meaning that it never took place, as there is no way to know what would have taken place if the correct call had been made
- the match returns to the time when the uncalled or incorrectly called situation took place, and the restart (neutral, or wrestler A on bottom or on top) is predicated by what should have been called at that time

In short, the ref didn't have the ability to "correct" the non-call of Amine's TD and then award Facundo a reversal.

Heavyweight: Greg Kerkvliet vs. Mason Parris

First period: Kerkvliet is 257.6, Parris 257.4 per Byers. Kerkvliet shoots first but it ends in a stalemate. Two shots for Kerk and one for Parris but nothing cooking either time. Kerk drops down but Parris declines and they break apart. First period ends scoreless.

Second period: Parris down to start. Parris is out with 1:20 to go to 1-0. Kerk drops and tries a shot but can't drive through as Parris fends it off to a stalemate. After two, it's 1-0 Parris.

Third period: Kerk is down. He sits out and escapes to 1-1 quickly. Kerk fends off a Parris double attempt. Stalling caution on Kerk with 1:10 left. Parris counters a Kerk shot and scores to 3-1 with under a minute to wrestle. Kerk tries to sit out then turn in and can't. 20 seconds to go now. Parris rides out.

Mason parris 3, Greg Kerkvliet 1

Penn State 30, Michigan 8

Full takeaways to come.

So pumped for Levi. I think this is step 1 on his path to the podium this year. I really think he can do it. Same with Beau Bartlett. Same with Alex Facundo. What a great night for those 3. SVN did SVN things. Disappointed in Kerk, but it happens. Parris is really good. Looked like he just didn’t have the juice tonight.
Man I’m excited for next weekend.
