For a first game on the road against a quality? opponent, they did well. Need to clean up the penalties, get more WRs involved, find a fg kicker, and stay injury free. Carter had some growing pains but he will improve rapidly. Nice to see Nick, Drew, and Trey play at a high level.

Tough to get more wide receivers involved when you only throw about 18 passes and two were throwaways in the first half. Fleming and Clifford will probably see some targets early in the next game to make up for it, but can’t complain about Ball distribution with that few passes in my opinion.

most of the penalties should be easy to cleanup. officiating was more noticeable, but the offsides should be fixable.

FG kicking seems to be a problem again, so someone else will need to stand up. hopefully we have someone. some of the punts seemed a little short compared to Riley's past.

Carter on DE looks to be a learning experience. seems like he wrecked more havoc from LB spot. he also got erased on the runs a few times. he was also guilty of offsides a few times.

offense checked the boxes for sure. Drew running at key moments made a difference.

Former PSU priority target WR Rodney Gallagher had 1 catch for 8 yards for WVU.

Carter looked bad vs the run.

And there will be a river of tears next year at this time as Franklin begins a new era as a very rich coach of the Florida Gators.
If that would happen, which I seriously doubt, Saban is available. 😬

They can and will, while quietly awaiting the first loss with eager anticipation.

I’m glad you two have each other….

I think Carter is more effective against a pure drop back passer. It's difficult to get to a mobile QB. It's also difficult to get to the QB on run plays.

That said, I expected Carter & DDS to get a sack or two once PSU scored on their opening possession of the second half. At that point WVa was forced to pass to catch up.

First games always have their challenges.
That said, anyone with any basic knowledge of the teams - who honestly thought it was likely to be close (as opposed to just trying to hype a dog game), IDK?

Just as a for instance:
WVU plays with a 5 man secondary.
Their 5 starters were all transfers in to WVU. They came from:
Duquense
Georgia Southern
Abilene Christian
Rochester Community College (Seriously)
and
Northwestern.

WVU didn't have 2 defensive players who could make the chart for the average Big Ten team - and they played like it.

Credit to PSU, they did what you should do to a far weaker "talent challenged" team. You can only play the teams on your schedule.
But WVU will give up plenty of 35-40-45 point games this year. (WVU is better on offense than on defense - and was more of a test for the D, than their D was to PSU's O. But not that much)

If Kotelnicki does well, he’ll leave for a head coaching job.

If we’re lucky, Kotelnicki won’t do well so we can keep him as OC.

Wait. 🤔

😞
Andy is one more failed 2 point conversion and a laid egg vs OSU from being 2nd most hated coach on the staff. Fans would never be like"what have you done for me lately."😉
