The Washington Post had an article about the wins by Miami, ND, and PSU. Many readers in the comment section think Paterno was involved in a cover up of Sandusky sex affair. It will take another generation of fans for the string of that scandal to abate. So sad...

Once you accept that the masses are asses, it is easier to digest.

Also, Manny was the DC.
I don't think anyone will be saying Tom Allen is better than Manny. Tom has to wear a hat for fu<ks sake šŸ™„
I'm aware of the difference between OC and DC. My comment was meant to make light of the fan boys tendency to fall in love with coordinators...hired by James and quickly projected to be better HC's than him. Wonder if anyone finds it curious that they get credit, but failed decisions are all attributed to the HC.
For instance, the decision to go for 2...while it's obvious the the HC had the final say...does anyone believe that it was his idea?
Also, the gap between coordinators and HC is humongous. Especially today.

Says another shoe salesman on this board. WTF do you know about anything related to defending the run game in college football?
Hmm...well I played high school at Southern Columbia, college at Mansfield and coached high school as an assistant for 3 years and head coach for 13. I've served decades on our sectional football committee in NYS after my retirement from coaching. Now I realize that most here have a lot more experience and knowledge than I have...but I will double down and assert that Carter isn't making any All American Teams based on the way he played the run on Saturday. Nor would most coaches be thrilled with his repeated encroachment penalties and his needless hit out of bounds. I've been a PSU fan for more than 60 years and no one wants success for the team and James more than I do. But Carter insisted on a position change and as such, it may bring growing pains. I'm sorry if my opinion upset you.

My comment was only to bring up Manny's hair.

the emoji face was my hint at my lack of seriousness.

Also, if anyone takse anything I write on here too seriously they will probably have an aneurysm.

Thanks. I think we are all here for entertainment and amusement. What form it takes has a lot to do with personal perspective.

Iā€™ve always thought Rudel had a balanced, well thought out take on PSU. I enjoy his perspective.

the position change I think was related to the idea that there is more NFL $$$ for the DE vs LB. Based on what we saw Saturday, I would agree that AC will not be making any AA teams as a DE. The team would be bett4er off with him back at LB as he had more options back there and was a force. We took our top player and put him at a position he may turn out to be less of a factor. There may be other DEs who would play as well as AC.

if AC does not improve, will his draft status improve next spring?

there will be games down the line where this will be more important.

I got the same impression that the move was initiated by the Carter camp.
..not the staff. Definitely $$$ motivated. My assessment was not meant to "kill" the kid. He appeared aggressive to a fault. Trying too hard to disrupt the game instead of reading his "keys" and slowing the game down. I'm sure he'll have his share of big plays down the road.

JoePa loved Urban. If we got him a HC we would have at least 2 more MNC
Joe was vulnerable in his final years. Urban showed him respect and Joe was snuckered. Don't forget, Joe also didn't see the real Mike McQueary either. Everyone has a different view on what they are willing to do for a NC. Michigan is going to be an interesting case study.

I agree. Meyer played Joe and to a greater extent Curley/Spanier for about six months. The latter largely have themselves to blame. Even knowing that, I would have taken him as a coach back then. Now? Does he still have i? Who can say?

I don't sell shoes, or anything for that matter. But I do know making tackles is a fundamental part of defending the run game (or just playing defense in general).

I donā€™t have a dog in the fight here, but to be fair, not all good things show up on stat sheets.

I get that and that play would have been a tackle if the qb recovered the fumble (glad it happened the way it did). I think it is hard to say the starting DE or OLB (whatever position he is playing) having 1 tackle can be a good game. He is supposed to be the best defensive player on the field (at least for the front 7) he should have 5-10 tackles each game.
If he had 5 plays like the one in that clip it might be easier to say he had a good game.
If he was a DT, his job would be to eat up double teams (no stats for this) and make play for others to make plays... never heard that technic for DE or OLB. Maybe there is a new defensive strategy.
I wrote a lot to someone who doesn't care. Sorry.

Don't you think it is odd that all 4 DEs are at the bottom of the tackles stat? Do you think they all had bad games or, just possibly, there was something else at play?

CJF said he had a great game. So, he must have. Who am I to argue with CJF?
I expected the PSU defender wearing #11 to have a better stat than 1 total tackle. But I'm not even a shoe salesman.
I really only care about Ws and Ls, so if he played sh!tty and it's a W that is better than a great game with an L.

You realize WVa will probably be a top 10 rushing offense in the nation....now look at the stats again and do some critical thinking. First time in 2 years they were held under 140 yards on the ground and it as 85 yards....so apparently the ENTIRE UNIT did it's job.
