That’s terrible. We really have done a great job over the last 15 years or so making the campus look more cohesive. Sucks they took a cool looking building in the heart of campus and did this.
17-ing TERRIBLE!!!
I can’t believe some higher ups- Keenum, to make one signed off on this BS!!!

Perry is timeless and won't ever look outdated.

Even if this glass box wasn't attached to Perry, it'd be outdated in 5 years.

Just terrible.

That looks terrible, but i honestly never really approached it from that side. Are they changing the drill field side?

I really do wonder whether having an architecture schools hurts us. Do we let those weird 17ers weigh in on selecting firms or something?

An architecture professor at the schoool basically told me it was a mistake to have Swalm match Lee Hall because the architecture was racist. Not sure how absurd that statement would seem to other architect professors, but it makes me think none of those people should be near any decision making for the school.
I predate the swalm building, so Etheridge hall is what I know....but swalm should have been gold with a microbrewery in the back. The dairy joint gets to sell cheese, let the ChEs sell beer.

The architecture department usually has no say in these projects.

I say this as a graduate of said architecture school, I cannot believe this was allowed to get built. Rule #1 of working with historic architecture is not to overshadow the original, ESPECIALLY when it's a part of a bigger campus. This glass clad hellhole looks like it was designed by someone who gets kickbacks from the curtain wall manufacturer.

I just looked it up, some firm from Baton Rouge. So not only are we letting someone ruin the cafeteria, we're giving the money to a bunch of LSU grads. Cool cool cool.

All this does is reinforce why I kind of hate most other architects.

If they built an approved glass house, are they not hinting that they think it can get undone at some point?

What a shame. It was one of the iconic jewels on campus. Who in the 17 signed off on this crap?

Dorman shut down back in May with all instructors being relocated throughout campus. It is currently being remodeled pretty good on inside. The outside hasn't begun yet.
They are doing a lot of work on the building air handling equipment and I suppose that means ductwork and that probably will entail new ceilings and lighting but that will be about it for "remodeling" its not like they are gutting it to the bricks and redoing it. they are taking all the air handling equipment on the roof and putting it in the basement. It will be attached to the campus chilled water loop for heating and cooling. This necessitated the building of a Physical plant building east of Dorman. I believe a glass atrium will be added to the east end (Doman 140 large auditorium). This will include restrooms that will be open on gamedays.

A glass atrium on Dorman is like a wart on a turd

The glass atrium is forcing removal of that huge great old oak tree in that end of Dorman too last I heard

I’m really surprised the creative genius’s who make our architectural decisions didn’t decide to build a replica Dorman and attach it to the cafeteria.

And so many visitors and friends over the years told me that was one of the most beautiful places they had ever seen on any SEC campus. I guess no more.

I had a New York based work colleague on campus with me a number of years ago and he was amazed at the
Cafeteria, said it rated right up there with some of the best at West Point. fYI, my grandfather was president of Student association at the time Perry opened and was the first student to get to eat there. I was maybe 6-7 years old first time he took me there. The
addition is an embarrassment to the administration.
