Wasn’t dei
Trump fired the aviation security board 8 days ago
Pete Hegseth was drunk and took a Blackhawk for a ride
Let’s make every tragedy political!!!!

This looks really bad for ATC. It's almost like they walked away for a coffee break. I have never worked with radar, but it was pretty obvious with the red lights and flight paths that there was a huge chance for a collision.
ATC warned them twice, and the helicopter responded that they would see and avoid. Not sure why some of you are insistent on blaming them.

Military training mission. TCAS doesn't work under 1,000'. Occam's Razor here, guys.

That was a Continental Connection flight, same as last night's American Eagle. Continental was a major airline back then.
Congratulations, L4 - you're the most pedantic poster on this board. You win. Round of applause.

Am I mistaken or were they not letting things get a little lax several years ago? I seem to recall a focus on hiring diversity pilots and many pilots I know were up-at-arms about airlines taking in pilots that should not have been in a cockpit of a simulator much less an actual plane. Then the vaccine requirements happened and we lost even more quality pilots.
It used to be that there were several college programs for becoming a controller that would fast track you into a job with the FAA. It was a pretty good deal and you were pretty much guaranteed a job if you made it through the program. In 2013 the executive branch decided that the candidates in that pipeline weren't diverse enough, so they no longer gave preference to people who went through those programs and instead everything was based off of a "biographical questionnaire", and some of the questions had nothing to do with aptitude for the job. Students quit enrolling in those programs since they were pretty specialized and job guarantees no longer existed. The government destroyed the morale for what was already a pretty low morale position.

I would think more than 50 people dying in a crash constitutes as major. I remember that crash specifically because it was the night before me and my wife were flying to Virginia for a wedding. The news reports of the crash were playing on tv’s in the terminal. The pilot of our plane came out to talk to us before takeoff and reassured us because I think we were all nervous about flying. I know I was.

They had a goal to INCREASE the amount of controllers back then, and still do, because they were needed. So the numbers don't track that the FAA was restricting the applicants. You still have to complete the training, no matter what.

We haven’t had a major crash of a USA carrier since 2001 (just after 9/11)
In 2006 another Bombardier crashed on takeoff in KY and killed almost all on board - I think about 50 people.
Was Delta connection carrier - Comair

It wasn’t DEI for ATC. They literally couldn’t find enough people interested. They’ve advertised ATC school quite a bit and tried to make a big deal about how much money you can make. Still have shortages.
Understood. Never mentioned ATC. Just going off firsthand accounts of what pilot friends have said about pilot hiring.

This still exists to an extent, right here in MS:

What talking point did I regurgitate?
“DEI! (eye roll as if it isn’t hurting quality hires and hurts industries).” Stop playing off the policies you worship don’t hurt this country. But you turned it political bc why not. Congrats.

Except it was DEI for ATC. The FAA was given an incentive program to hire more black, hispanic and women. Thousands of applicants were scrapped based solely on being white. That’s DEI

Holy hell your mind is warped by politics. This is a tragedy and it's disgusting that you immediately knee jerk made it political with your diversity speculation. I kept it light by making a joke about your politicizing of this. Now you've pissed me off. 17 you. Wait until the facts come out at least until you try to get your political analysis out on it. And don't accuse me of making anything political about it bc there is zero evidence or reason to 14 hours after 60+ people died.

Again...as disrespectfully as possible...17 you.

Maybe he is implying that since Trump sent all the DEI folks home, we didn't have the talent needed to properly operate?*** Regardless, one thing we've learned over the last 4 years is that the president is responsible for everything negative in the entire world, so I anxiously await the administration taking responsibility for the gross failings of their federal organizations and putting forth a very well thought out plan for correcting it.

You truly are a dense individual. I didn’t make it political at all. I merely asked a question and provided statements made by actual people in the industry who shared what was happening with me about diversity being made a big focus by airlines. This was in response to a comment about not letting just anybody in cockpits.
It’s truly sad that you’re such a trained guard dog that you heard “diversity” like a dinner bell and you jump at the opportunity to attack. There was no speculation on my part. I just shared, again, what was shared with me by people in the industry.

Calm down, Martha. No need to get all hysterical.

So did your wife sleep with Trump just once or was it over a long timeframe?
