Said that he called Cohen's two days before and asked him NOT to take the job.
Also said that whether or not Cohen does a better job than Raffo is besides the point. And therein lies the problem; that SHOULD BE the point.

Go away Polk.

*shudder* at what could happen...

It will be a long time for me to forgive Polk in his attempts to scuddle the program and dissuade Cohen from taking the job.

Did he just say he was going to have an office built? And did he mean building an office on campus?

But it does explain a lot about why Polk II had a losing SEC record.

telling his side of the story...as in, making people understand why he is so upset? Because, he is doing nothing but the opposite.

he left a voicemail w/ Cohen telling him he was disappointed him.

Keep screening your calls John and lookout for yourself 'cause your ol' coach is not looking out for you.

explains so much about why we were so bad.

And to think, he had many convinced it was because of scholarship inequities.

What happens if Polk finds himself in the TV booth at the CWS?
Then he will probably be the first ever Whitfield escapee to travel across 3 states and get into a television booth.

Seems like Polk realizes he went a little off the deep end as he said he spoke emotionally and said some things he shouldn't have several times. I still don't agree with him, but I think this will all smooth over over time.

Of course, I'm not looking for a reason to blast him at every turn........

Please go away. I will take your name off of the outfield fence , so don't worry about coming out and doing it. Just go the rule 17 away.

He just wishes LT was still in charge. He'd hate anyone not named Larry Templeton right now. Polk's plans went out the window when Doc brought in GB.

Thanks, GB!

His egomaniacal self-absorbed cronyism nearly surpasses that of a New Orleans politician. That, my friends, shocks the fecal matter out of me. He reeks of the same stench of Good Ol' Boy Entitlement, that has crippled the athletic department for years. Ron Polk's cigar smoke is ever more symbolic, in retrospect.

unless and until he offers a public apology to all those who were affected, in my opinion. These players and coaches are not his children or his kids....they are all grown men. He's the only one who apparently is not a grown man.

all would be forgiven as far as I'm concerned.

The program would be better off with Polk as a supporter. Like it or not, some of his players are going to back him out of loyalty, even though they realize he's unbalanced.

he needs to publicly back John Cohen.

Until he does that, I'll never believe he is in it for MSU. It will always be about Ron Polk.

although I don't think you will ever see Polk apologize to Byrne. I do hope he can smooth it over with Cohen and will decide to still be a supporter of MSU baseball.

I thought he sounded somewhat reasonable, especially compared to Friday. He pulled back from most of the things he'd said that were just way over the line, like sabotaging the program.

He will never smooth it over with Byrne. He will with JC because he is one of his as he see's it and that and MSU baseball is all the man has.

+!$@ out of The Jewel and stays there. This **** got old a long time ago. Everytime you think he could not make a more ridiculous comment, he goes and makes a more ridiculous comment. He asked Cohen not to take the job! He harrased him via voicemail for taking the job! Who the +!$@ does he think he is? Why can't he just step down and go quietly into the Germantown night like The Jackal did? No apology will ever make up for this.

The best thing Byrne and Mississippi State can do is just ignore the crazy *******....

he called Coach Cohen and told him not to take the job makes him way out of line trying to affect the hiring process. Who else did he speak to about the job?

is he to tell cohen not to take the job?! i mean i respect waht coach polk has done and i really do admire him for all he has done with the players, in life, not just baseball...but to go and call john and tell him NOT to take the job?! that is just unreal. if i were cohen, if polk ever called again i'd just treat him like the crazy uncle in the family and not even pay attention.

I've got no problem with him asking Cohen not to take the job, even though I disagree with it.

And that office - sounds like some kind of new suite and/or DWS-style club level thing is in the works. He wanted an office somewhere, I thought there in conjunction with that new addition. Anyway, its sounds like he wanted a place on campus to hang out and call is own.

If not for Friday's outburst, I'd be glad to have him there and to have him remain a background cog in the program. And I'm willing to forgive, but after Friday I don't know if he could live down to background status. I'm not sure he could stay back and let Cohen run the program.

Don't blame Polk for your baseball ignorance... Anybody with any baseball insight knew MSU baseball was going down hill in the early 90s.
