Ok what is it with escapees in PA?

Having worked in Corrections for 25 years I cannot recall a successful escape of especially murderers in the state of MI.

It seems about every few years PA has one and they seem to be murderers. I certainly hope heads roll when these occur.

I presume you're talking about the prisoner that escaped on Thursday from the Chester County Prison.

From what I've been told (from the spouse of somebody high up in the county govt.), there is a design flaw where a person can shimmy up between walls. That's how this prisoner escaped, and two years ago another prisoner used the same technique/route to escape. Two other prisoners escaped from the same prison in the past year, but I don't know the technique they used to escape.

1 particular County Jail (not prison). Not sure what the flaw is but both escapees came from Chester County this year.

**Counties in PA do not have Prisons. They have Jails. Jails are County run and house those awaiting trial and those with short term sentences(under 24 months). Prisons are State and Federally run and house those who have been sentenced and have sentences longer than 24 months generally speaking.

Kind of know the difference but our one job is to keep society safe from those who can no longer live in a free society.

Yes county jails are far less secure than state prisons, I did enough transportation runs to county jails to see this.

Never forget doing a transportation run to a county court and putting a prisoner in a holding cell. I gave my weapon to the officer who was with me when taking the prisoner in the holding cell. We had to uncuff him as that was the court rules, we were against it but judges make the rules. A county officer brought in a prisoner with a weapon on his side. I couldn't get out of there fast enough and retrieve my weapon.

A really good friend (State Police officer) of mine had a friend killed in this similar situation.

They must have all read The Count of Monte Crisco by Alexandree Dumba$$.

My post wasn't directed at you. I assume you know the difference being in the field, as am I. My post was to all in general because I've found that most people don't know the difference between a jail and a prison.

As for having a weapon with unrestrained inmates, that's insane. The CO or Deputy would be reprimanded up to and including termination here in Berks.

2school districts closed today because this nut is still on the loose
Yeah - My Wife works in that district - can't believe he hasn't been caught yet but it is a very heavily wooded area there. After they catch him the damn well better fix whatever lead to him being able to escape in the first place.

Very true I don't know how many people asked me what jail I worked at even though I would say, "I work for the Michigan Department of Correction."

Accused murderer Hugo Selenski is on the loose. Police say he and another inmate, Scott Bolton, escaped from the Luzerne County Prison around 9:45 Friday night. It appears the two broke out of a barred jail cell from the sixth floor, using bed sheets tied into a long rope. Police say Bolton fell during the escape and was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. We’re told Selenski got away.

WILKES-BARRE -- Hugo Marcus Selenski, the man at the center of the mystery of five sets of human remains discovered at his Kingston Township residence, escaped from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility late Friday night by descending about 70 feet on a rope of tied bedsheets.

Mr. Selenski, 30, and Scott Alan Bolton, who is accused of stealing dozens of all-terrain vehicles in Luzerne County, used 10 to 12 knotted bedsheets, still visible from the street early today. They apparently broke their seventh-floor cell window and scaled down the wall to a roof of another building.

and it appears that what I was told was correct:

My home is within the search zone. I was traveling this week, and driving home tonight from PHL encountered a check point to enter my neighborhood. Had to show my ID. Was a little nervous to enter my home that has been vacant for several days. Fortunately all OK.

I was pretty sure you were in the search zone, based on some things you've said in the past. I'm glad to read that all was well when you entered your home.

This is why we only aloud two sheets per inmate and when cells were shaken down extra sheets were taken away and possible sanctions could occur.

Mine also, this is as close to a true prison movie I've ever seen. The facility I worked at twice in the early 90's then retired from in 2014 had the open cells like this. We did not have the open tiers like the movie. It was one of the oldest prisons in Michigan (The Michigan Reformatory built in 1800's). In the old days the prisoners would have to line up outside their cells before mass movement then march down a painted line on the floors as they did in the movie. You could still see the faded lines when I worked there years ago.
