One, if you decide to move into the passing lane, don’t wait until the last moment to squeeze in front of a car that’s going 15 mph faster than you are, idiot.

Two, take ten seconds maximum to pass someone, no more, you freaking douchebag. The gas pedal is there for a ******* reason, STEP ON IT.

10 seconds?? 5 is more appropriate. What irritates me is the guy who does the 10+ seconds AND THEN SPEEDS UP to move back in right lane. If you are willing to speed up then do it while passing.

When someone takes forty seconds to pass, I’ll settle for 10. ******* meatheads all over the interstate.

I’m the calmest, most laid back person you’ll ever meet. But put me behind the wheel and I immediately turn into Dr. Jekyll. Learn how to drive, idiot!
I drove from Springfield, IL to Columbus today. The stretch from Indianapolis to the Ohio state line was ******* torture. Thank God for the 21st Amendment.

I have really mellowed as a driver. Don't ask me why, I can't explain it, but the things that bother me while driving are much fewer and farther between. Go figure.

Realizing that 60-80% of people are lousy divers (including, no doubt, some of those who are bitching in this thread) and that this isn't going to change helps.

We did Columbus last week, on the way west. German Village, zoo, art museum. Only downside was the blackout shut our favorite BBQ restaurant, Smoked on High.

The folks who don't realize, or don't care that the passing lane is for passing are almost certainly the same folks who don't put their shopping carts in a corral or back in the store, and leave them in the lot, to smash into people's cars, or just take up spaces. And the same folks who decide they're going to back in to spots in a busy parking lot, while everyone is trying to hurry in and out.

I’ve mentioned a few times here that I’m in longer term recovery, God willing 15 years in august. Back in the day I caused some serious accidents, thankfully never hurting anyone but myself.

One of the best life coping skills I learned in rehab was understanding that idiots are not doing their thing to/at you (selfish/self centered thinking)… they are just doing their thing. Has nothing to do with you. This general mindset has lowered my driving anxiety from an 8 to a 2 on most days. I just let them be idiots and stay out of their way. Probably a huge reason I haven’t been in a car accident in 15 years.

I thought driving was bad before the pandemic its 10x worse now. People now think they can just do whatever they want and red lights don't mean what I thought they did.

Congrats on your journey the last 15 years. Stay the course and I’m hoping the next 15 are even more enjoyable for you and yours.

You left out the turn signal! If you’re going to move to the left lane, let me know!!!

Americans pass, Brits overtake. On the right. Which just seems so wrong.

I’ve never driven in a right-hand-drive country, but I’m sure I would f*ck it up royally. The whole time, I would be telling myself, “Do the opposite,” but I know I would f*ck it up. The combination of everything being reversed plus not knowing the area would be too much for me. It would not end well.

Yeah, I tried it, and it was just weird. I decided I need to be chauffered around these areas.

That said, Italy drives on the right, like the US, and those f*ckers are insane behind the wheel. They used to drive on the left, but sometime post WWII they changed. I think most every country on the Continent drives on the left.

Here are some countries that drive on the left:

U.K.
South Africa
Japan
Australia
New Zealand
India

They are on my no-drive list.

All of mainland Europe drives on the right.

I think Bermuda, BVI, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and perhaps a couple more. Basically, with the exception of Japan, the former British colonies.

I tried in Ireland once with my wife. The trip from the airport to the hotel in Dublin (20 min) was the largest stressor ever on our marriage. It is so incredibly difficult. I kept drifting left into other lane. We left the car in the parking garage and took taxis and trains for entire trip and paid a local to drive us back to rental office.

I had similar concerns, but it's not as tough to get used to as I had feared.

I rented a car in Ireland, and drove around the entire island for two weeks. After the initial drive from the airport to the hotel, which was somewhat stressful as it was an urban area, I found I quickly adapted to the change, and didn't have to remind myself which lane to be in.

My only issues were the roads. If you get off the main roads, many of the roads are barely wide enough for 2 cars. The Irish seem to drive like maniacs (very fast), and with the lush growth on the side of the road (with no shoulders), the tendency is to move in a few feet from the edge, which doesn't work when someone is coming in the other direction at 60+ mph.

Interestingly, when I returned to the USA, after picking up my car at JFK, I started to go in the wrong lane when I exited the parking lot. A loud horn jarred me back to driving on the right.

We have lost sight of the original issue.

Anyone that takes too long to pass someone or just sits in the left lane, needs to be violently executed.
