141: Shie wins, 5-2. Was 2-0 at the start of the third. Meredith earned a takedown on what sounded like a scramble (no video for me) but Shie quickly escaped to 3-2 then finished a takedown with a second left to reach the margin.

Penn Stage 8, Army 3 as we move on to 149.

149: Beau Bartlett vs. P.J. Ogunsanya

Per 1
Phone call still going on, so I'm missing part of the 1st period. Phone call finally ended (yes!). A real battle in this period, and no scores. End

Per 2
Bartlett takes bottom. He's up and out very quickly, 1-0. Eye poke by Bartlett stops wrestling. They re-start, and then P.J. loses his other contact. smh. P.J. in on a single, but they go to a stalemate with 1:14 left. Both seem to be trying to line things up, but nothing. Stall warning on Bartlett, and he seemed to be pushing the action. Oh well. End

Per 3
P.J. takes bottom. Bartlett working on the left side. P.J. tries a roll-out and Bartlett stays with him and breaks P.J. down. P.J. gets out at 46 sec into the period, 1-1. Bartlett working an under hook, nothing. A flurry near the end of the period, but nothing. End

OT 1
P.J. tries to shoot, Bartlett nearly gets in on a leg, but nothing. Eye poke stoppage. 1 min left. Lots of action, but nobody getting close to a TD. Bartlett tries a double, to a single, he elevates the leg, and he gets the TD!!!!! 3-1 DEC. 1:35 into the OT

157: Barraclough vs. Markus Hartman

Per 1
not much action half-way through. Hartman tries a body lock, and it ends in a stalemate. lots of hand fighting, and eventually a stalemate with 26 sec left. End

Per 2
Barraclough takes bottom. He's to his feet, returned. Hartman tries to lock a near-side cradle, turns him, and gets swipes. This is not good. 4 NF, 0-4. Barraclough nearly up, but returned. Hartman throws in boots with 45 sec left. Barraclough trying to turn in -- tough to do with legs -- and it ends. A rideout means Hartman has 2:00 in RT

Per 3
Hartman takes top. Barraclough to his feet, back down, and stopped due to PD with 1:39 left. Barraclough to his feet off the whistle, but he's returned by a trip. Hartman tilts him and gets 4 NF, 0-8. Baraclough works up but is broken back down. 30 sec left. OOB. Caution on Barraclough on the restart. Barraclough working for a rev, but Hartman staves it off. End With 4:00 of RT, it's 0-9.

11-7, PSU at the break

Really lackluster wrestling after RBY was finished.

these last three wrestlers are not delivering points at tournaments as it stands currently but the season is young.

Barraclough takes down position at start of second period and stays on bottom for the next 4 (and final) minutes of match. Ugh.

CS instructed him to take bottom. I don't question his decisions, especially since he's working the long game as well as the short game.

It was disappointing that Barraclough was unable to esc, and I don't blame Hartman for taking top in the 3rd.

Jeez. Tough crowd. They all can’t be RBY. Meredith wrestling up two weights, Bartlett still figuring out his offense, and Barraclough just simply got outwrestled. I suspect you’ll be happier starting at 74.

hmm, Jim Carlson (Patriot-News) is missing tonight's dual due to an emergency appendectomy.

When Tim Owen left BWI, BWI contracted with Jim to provide wrestling coverage, though he kept his Patriot-News job.

I would agree on the high scoring point, but Beau's win was hardly lackluster against a higher ranked kid and last year's EIWA champion. Meredith's (a back up)first match at 141 and almost pulled off an upset a ranked kid. Solid effort.Barraclough definitely disappointing.

Wow. Max was ruthless on top. That’s called Zain-ish (and he included a Zain-like bow-and-arrow). If he keeps that up, it’ll be called Max-ish for future brutalizers on top. I’m going to have nightmares tonight!

Brooks on with Byers:

On fans back at Rec Hall: "It's a great feeling being able to come out here and compete in front of all these loyal fans. They love us and we love them. Overall, it's going to help us a lot."

AB on Shunk winning: "Baylor Shunk is one of my best friends and my roommate. To see his hard work pay off, we see him going in in the morning and working with Thomas Gilman and Coach Casey, Coach Coady, a great kid. To see him come out and just compete, regardless of the high school accolades, it just goes to show you: Come into the program, work hard, you're grateful, you listen to the coaches, you come here, and you perform at Rec Hall and have a good time."
