Perhaps he doesn't want to compromise his source of information.
It wouldn't compromise his source at all , if he gave the name of the coach he is talking about , which I believe he is bs about

What he did at Vanderbilt was impressive
Getting PSU to a Big Ten championship by 2016, given where he was staring from, was impressive. The hiring of Joe Moorhead, the staff development of Brent Pry, Sean Spencer, and some others looked very good.
No doubt in my mind, obviously.

Where things are now, and the trajectory things are going, not so much.
After following up 2016 with three solid - but somewhat less than fully satisfying - years (remember the "what it takes to get to elite" speech?), and now basically mailing-it-in for two years in a row, has not been impressive (along with the constant excuse-making and alibiing).
Several very weird/disappointing coaching staff moves, including elevating, then firing, Rhane. The hire of Kirk C, and then immediately firing him after a disastrous year. Then bringing in Yurcich, and another disastrous year. Firing Limegrover, and replacing him with Trautwein - who's lines have been an unmitigated disaster. Bringing in Corley from Army to coach running backs - then moving him to WR - then firing him after one year - then Gerald Parker - then firing him after one year - then Taylor Stubblefield.
The shuffling from one inept special teams coach to another - each time remarking about how wonderful they would be - Galiano, Lorig, etc.
The "home run" hire of Seider - who's watch has seen the Penn State running back room turn into a completely impotent - and fundamentally unsound - group, with precious little impact from a plethora of supposedly highly-regarded running backs, or from the supposedly valuable Florida recruiting connections.
Having more kids leave via the portal than any other team in the conference - for a coach who incessantly preaches that "Family", and "It starts with I love you" nonsense - that is not impressive.
And, to add the cherry on the top of the sundae, the constant merry go round of "gimmee-gimmee-gimmee" contract renegotiations and threatened free-agency - instead of devoting his time and energy and focus to the task of coaching his team. A task that he has always been paid very handsomely to accept. That is not impressive.
Obviously.

There are more than a few things to really like about James Franklin from 2010-2017ish - and a few warts during that time, as is always the case
There are more than a few things to really be disconcerted with about James Franklin of the last several years - and a few potential positives, as is always the case. But the scale has definitely tipped in the wrong direction - at least I think that would be a reasonable analysis.

Well said. It's why the contract extension is baffling to anyone outside State College.

A number 6 class means nothing if they cant be coached up and with the performance of our running game and our backup QB at Iowa not to mention the OL all year not much coaching up going on

Yep.

Ironic is it not. We hired Franklin because he could do more with less. Vandy's facilities aren't on par with much of the SEC and yet there he won 61.5%. He comes here, he's given everything a head coach could dream of and wins 66.3%. Is the extra 5% worth it? Is the juice worth the extra squeeze.

No playoff appearances after eight years. They say hindsight is 20/20 but had you known ahead of time would you go through with the hire. I think not.

Why, he’s entitled to his opinion. However in his case, with everything else happening in the World, if you’re so invested in “college” football that you have the time an energy to loath a coach, you really should seek professional help.
Nonsense. Football is a passionate pursuit. For example there was a time I wanted this d bag dead
