Sonny I’m with ya. I’d love to be wrong but I’ve wrestled and coached for decades now. Hope your right. Can’t go wrong by getting stronger though.
Then you would know that these guys are not strength training for growth and “getting bigger” in season. Those kind of strength gains and body shaping/re-shaping happen in the off-season. Sorry, no amount of lifting is helping Max Dean (or Kerkvliet) change what he is in the next 3 weeks….and, I happen to think what he is, is good enough.

174: Mason Manville vs. Ethan Smith

Per 1
Smith gets a single and elevates it, Manville grabs an ankle, they scramble, and Smith gets the TD, 0-2. Manville to a 4-pt then they go OOB with 2:06 left. manville to his feet and he's out, 1-2. Smith in on another single and after a scramble gets the TD, 1-4. Manville works up, and he's, 2-4. Smith shoots and gets another ankle and then the TD, 2-6. Manville out, 3-6. Smith in on another low single, elevates it, and gets the TD, 3-8. Manville working up, but back down. End. RT @ 2:00 for Smith

Per 2
Smith takes bottom. He hits a roll and gets a reversal off of it, 3-10. Manville starts to workup, Smith throws in a boot, and a stalemate with 50 sec. He cuts him, 4-10. Smith gets another low single, and gets the TD after a short scramble, 4-12. . End RT @ 3:27 for Smith, so it's locked

Per 3
Manville takes bottom. Smith sort of an optional start and tries to hit a cradle, nothing. Now Manville nearly gets a reversal but just an esc, 5-12. Smith in on another low single and gets behind for the TD, 5-14. End. With 5:13 in RT, it's a 5-15 MAJOR for Ethan Smith

19-7, PSU
I hate to diss the kid, but he looked overwhelmed and totally gassed! He actually looks like he's an inexperienced freshman wrestling his first ever match...in other words, like sh^t against a really dominant Smith...too bad, because his struggles were profound, and, against Smith, really looked pathetic...I thought he was supposed to be a top notch, athletic wrestler...hmmmmmmmm

Wrestling in the BIG is just different than the Ivies. Dean is finding that out in real time and so is Patrick Brucki. Brucki was manhandled last night by Shultz after losing last week at Maryland. You hit a top guy every weekend. At Cornell or Princeton maybe a few top guys along the way, but rarely back to back. The wear and tear of the BIG schedule is really tough.

Max didn’t look too pleased with his performance. He’s wrestled every match this year. The slowdown towards Big Tens will help him a lot.
My buddy said that he thought Max Dean was limping after the match. Anyone see this?

He was wrestling the 5th(?) ranked kid in the nation. It’s as if no one recognizes that every time our studs major or tech a ranked guy, we make them look like an inexperienced, pathetic freshman. But the reality is, our guys are just that much better. Snith is a lot better than Manville. Manville wrestled his first competitive folkstyle match in 2 years. Smith wisely went to Manville’s ankles repeatedly because he knew Manville at least had a shot if he let him get upper body. Manville lasted 7 exhausting minutes with the 5th ranked wrestler in the country. He didn’t get turned. He didn’t get teched. He didn’t get pinned. Pathetic, my a$$.

I saw it too. I think there was a potentially dangerous call or a stalemate call before the end where Dean’s knee was twisted. Wouldn’t shock me if he sits vs. Schultz, who’s real tough. Good thing we’ve got an All-American on the bench who could give Max a breather.

You need to realize that these boards are frequented mostly by 4 time - DI - AAs, and in most cases, a couple National titles. ;)

Max has 1 loss and has been everyone thrown at him but caffrey. That being said I think beards may have a better chance to beat a healthy Ferrari, but also takes losses he shouldn't. I think beards will eventually challenge for a national championship if he stays at psu. But this year is max's year
Won't next year be Max's year as well?

With a gray shirt, red shirt, and last year that did not count, seems likely that Beard will hit the portal. And why not? I think Beard is a junior academically with 3 years of eligibility left. Crazy. Really nice addition to Lehigh or many other schools.

I’m still stuck on this. If Manville was pathetic, what was Rocky Jordan, member of the famed Jordan family? What must the Buckeye faithful be calling Rocky? What’s worse than pathetic? I hope Buckeye fans are going easier on Rocky.

I can’t decide if I’d like to see Kerk get angry or if I’d hate to see him get away from his casual-looking norm.
Like Cenzo, Kerk has that completely unlaser expression. I am so grateful we have a staff who works with individuals as they are and turns them into Kind Killers.

I don’t follow HS wrestling and I’m not up on recruiting either but I recall reading the tOSU forum and there was a lot of predictions that Rocky Jordan was going to be the pick of the litter / best, among the Jordans. And he still might be, but so far, not so much. I hope he turns it around.

Whether it's Rocky vs. AB, Micah vs. Nolf, or Bo vs. Mark, our guys have a tendency to make Jordan wrestlers look like Manville vs. Ethan Smith.

Nolf vs anyone Ohio State was the biggest mismatch. Jason used to absolutely destroy them. Like a red cape in a bull fight, I think the tOSU singlet used to set him off.

2016 MD 19-6 vs Jake Ryan
2017 Fall 1:36 vs Anthony DeCarlo
2018 TF5 16-0 vs Micah Jordan (on one leg)
2019 TF5 21-6 vs KeShawn Hayes

I think similar results might be true if you extend it to Nolf vs. Anyone 😀
