Zach Seyko is acting like the PSU dynasty is going to crumble if we don't get Bassett and Miller. Seyko is a great guy, but needs to slow down. He is ridiculous at times.

Seriously, my head hurts the few times I listened to the guy. His schtick is pure click bait. I can't imagine that anyone would really listen to what he's says about PSU wrestling.

Imagine Spyker taping his podcast "just outside the PSU wrestling room." That's Seyko.

Pretty sure the furthest NW is a few from Utah ... unless we count David Taylor being a youth wrestler in Wyoming before moving to Ohio.

Or if we count Wittlake (Oregon) surprise committing to PSU without being recruited, and later flipping to OKST.
I msised two from the northwest: one from Idaho and one from Wyoming.

We've had wrestlers from 24 states since Cael came. Listing the states below, and a more recent and/or known wrestler for the less obvious states.
AZ, CA, CO (Bo Pipher), CT (Will Henckel)
FL (Richie McClanahan), IA (Brody Teske), ID (Brian Borden), IL (Jered Cortez), IN
KY (Konner Kraeszig), MA (Aarif Asif), MD, MI, MN, MO (Luke Lilledahl)
NC (Devon Van Cura), NE (Nate Morgan), NH (David Owens), NJ, NY, OH
PA, TX, UT, VA (Mason Manville), WI, WY (Austin Hoopes)

I thank you , Alzheimer’s is cruel diagnosis.
I am so sorry to hear that. I have a friend going through the same thing with his wife the last three years or so. He had to retire so he could care for her 24/7. His wife is only in her 60's. He lives in California and found out that California will provide hospice-like care a few days a week for his wife even though she is not end-stage. The main requirement is that every few months his wife has to be medically evaluated to show that her condition is still deteriorating. Interestingly, her doctor never mentioned this benefit to him. A family friend told him about the State benefit. It was only when he asked the doctor about it that the doctor told him about the program!

I hope you're not trying to say Orange County CA is close to Montana or NW of Utah.
Sullivan probably mis-heard Mark Hall.

Public service announcement: Mark said that, 83 percent of the time, California is in the Midwest, not the Northwest.

May someone please provide a reasonable opinion on the Bassett/Miller situation? I honestly been dealing with my wife’s health and first time checking BWI in weeks. Thank you
A recent post on the Bucknuts board indicated that the top 3 consists of anOSU, VaTech, and Nebraska (in no particular order). Don't know how reliable this info is, but most of the board seem to think that the source normally has solid intel. FWIW.

Landon Sidun took a visit to Pitt last weekend. Expecting him at PSU later this month:

"Later this month" probably means the Oregon white out, right?

Because he's probably not being booked for Villanova, and there's no game the following weekend.

Looks like we can add Alabama to the list. Mason Ellis is among PSU wrestlers who have certified weights for 2026. Upperweight, guessing 184/197 this year. He's a 2x Alabama state champ and Fargo double AA.

He is listed as being from Washington PA, and he wrestled for Team PA at 2024 Fargo. But he never competed in a PA HS folk season. Guessing he moved north last year and ran afoul of PIAA transfer rules.

Wrestlestat has him going 12-10 last year at various Opens as an unrostered high school wrestler.

I'm something like 99% sure there was a kid from Alabama within the last 10 years. The name is escaping me at the moment.
I think you're right -- we had one for 1 year, then he transferred to a lower-division school closer to home.

But he's not on any published roster (thanks to PSU Athletics for scrubbing departures). And I can't find him on Google.

Found the needle in the haystack. Thought his last name started with a "W". So I looked at the individual wrestling records for Alabama HS. For most wins in a season, saw someone at 67 wins for one season - Nick Weldon. https://www.ahsaa.com/Sports/Winter/Wrestling/Wrestling-All-Time-Records The name sounded pretty familiar.

Did a google search for Nick Weldon wrestling and shaw 'nuff. https://newberrywolves.com/sports/wrestling/roster/nick-weldon/2936

2014-15 at Penn State: Went 7-9... Three wins by fall and two major decisions... Wrestled unattached in five open tournaments... Three wins at Nittany Lion Open... Quarterfinalist at Bearcat Open...

I met a kid down in Tuscaloosa last fall who was a “room guy” for us in 22-23. The kid was driving one of those game day trolleys. He saw my PSU wrestling tee shirt and stopped his trolley to talk. I was a bit skeptical, but, the kid showed me a pic with Carter on the mat. He told me was an Alabama state champ and wanted to go see what the best felt like. After one year he returned to Alabama. I’ve lost the kids name. Wearing PSU wrestling shirts almost always generate great conversations when visiting various colleges.

Pitt really seems to be prioritizing Sidun, his first call, first visit etc. I think he is likely to end up a bigger program, but Pitt is a program where he could stay home and also not have to worry about the same lineup complications of the PSU, Iowa-type programs

There's actually almost no lineup complication with Penn State (obviously kids can emerge and Cael will obviously recruit them if he likes the potential)

Landon will enroll in 2027 and says he views himself as a career 125, Luke will be in his last year then. By then Luke might have outgrown 125 but if he wants to stay down for 2028, Landon redshirts and takes over after. If Luke wanted to Olympic redshirt in 2027-2028, Landon can go right away and redshirt the year after (or maybe Luke goes 133)

Bottom line, it's a seamless fit.

Nate Desmond is a lineup complication as long as he's still at 125.

Should we land them and they are 125s, Sontz, Burnett, and Sanchez would also be challenges.

Sidun could still emerge from that group. And it doesn't really matter -- he doesn't seem the type to commit based on a lineup guarantee.

Sorry to hear that. I don’t know if you have seen this recent, pretty interesting research.

It’s over the counter, easy, and cheap and maybe worth a try. My wife and I began taking it recently.
As someone who took lithium for years, there's a reasonable chance you're gonna get a case of psoriasis so bad that it will cover your entire body. I went off before it got that bad, but i still have a large patch on my leg that hasn't gone away. Otherwise its a wonderful drug.

Take a look at the study. They used micro doses compared to what is used in the psychiatric treatment of bipolar disorder. For humans, that means about 3-5 mg. daily versus the 600-1200 mg. used for bipolar disorder.

Morgan is actually from Acton which is in the Antelope Valley (Palmdale / Lancaster). I imagine he boarded with a family in order to attend Calvary Christian in Santa Ana, Otherwise, he or his parents would have a 2+ hr. commute too and then from each day.

Borge's older brother Zion (2026) committed to Missouri.
Both brothers grew up wrestling youth in Mo until the move to Utah. Most fans see this as a good sign that Curtis flipped from Army to Mizzou. Increasing our chances at both, but I’m not so sure. Rumors that they have moved, or are going to move to Stillwater High

Due to my kids and coaching duties, i’ve watched MS duals, VAC duals, Bison, Tyrant…over the last 12 years. if i had to pick a kid Sidun would be very high on my list. Burnett would be a little higher. Older Bassett/Miller a bit higher even. Theres a few PA kids 2-3 yrs younger who I believe have even more potential. Our crawl is well stocked for a decade.

We are known to be recruiting: Melvin Miller, Landon Sidun, Dean Anderson (AZ), Cameron Sontz (NJ), Gavin Mangano (NY), Grey Burnett (OH), Max Konopka (CT), Israel Borge (UT), WIll Soto (NY). Noah Larios (CA) has expressed interest in PSU, but not confirmed if we are recruiting him.

Of them: from Greg's comment above, Sidun seems very likely. I'd be shocked if Miller/Bassett don't come. Burnett seems likely too, especially since he's down to his final 3 (and we're competing with his home state flagship school that wins recruiting national titles).

After that is anybody's guess.

Also, not sure how many visitors are allocated to Cael for this weekend. There are only so many hotel rooms to go around for all of the official visitors across all sports on a White Out weekend against a top 5 opponent. 3 seems light, but 8 seems like too many.

How many of the kids listed above are 2 yrs out?

We have ... what .. 2 kids in next yrs class so far?
Any more likely there?

All except Bassett are 2027.

Bassett is the only 2026 guy left worth giving an Oregon White Out hotel spot. And 2028 guys cannot be contacted until next summer.

Some good depth candidates remain in 2026, but the Oregon hotel slots are too rare to use on depth candidates.

I am connected to the Wrestling program as a donor (through Clay Steadman who is the Business Manager for the program) and was recently invited to a practice and met the majority of the team. We also sit right next to the recruits in section EF.

There will be recruits at both the Oregon and Indiana games.
