Radio silence from Bassett in about the last month. If he continued his eliminations, he'd be down to about 5 schools by now. I know he has a Rutgers visit coming up in a few weeks. Any news?

He's previously taken breaks from the weekly eliminations. And with the high school wrestling season in full gear, plus the recent holidays, I'm not all that surprised that he hasn't had any updates of late.

FWIW, the below thread has become the Bassett recruiting thread:

Who's most prominently displayed in the center of the graphic. Much like when a kid verbally lists his top schools, the one at the forefront of his mind is usually listed first. Human nature... Hope I'm wrong.

It will be interesting. IMO - if you are looking to truly achieve greatness on the international stage there are 2 options, one that’s proven (Penn State) and one that’s a potential possibility (Oklahoma State). Iowa and the Brands have shown no ability to do this - I would argue the Lee got there despite the coaching not because of it. He was a generational talent, and didn’t jump level after getting to Iowa.

I know nothing, but one program just got embarrassed on the national stage and has a crazy booster to throw record setting $ at him to change the narrative. Given the timing and sudden change in his decision timeline, I’m guessing Iowa

Bo could reclassify and come out this year and that could be why he’s moving his announcement up. Unless there is movement upward there is no room for him to start at PSU next year. Starroci is done so some movement can get PJ Duke in the lineup but injuries would have to occur for Bassett to start at PSU this coming season. I’m guessing Forrest and Bassett to OkSt.

And we still need to sort out the Ryder, Barr, Mirasola logjam at the upper weights plus Facundo and Sealey at 157/165 with Kasak and Messenbrink holding down those spots for the next 3 years.

it depends on how much starting early is important to him. Bo isn’t the type of kid I’m going to try and predict lol he could literally choose anyone. I hope it’s PSU though.

I’ll also add that competition or logjams won’t influence his decision. I get zero sense that Bo’s worried about competition, in fact I think he welcomes it. If he chooses to go somewhere other than PSU, that just sucks from a homegrown story perspective. Would love too see all the top PA guys at PSU flying the PA flag, but I also know that in other scenarios, if there are better guys available from other states, Cael is going to go after them over a PA guy. Still hoping we get the homegrown kid this time.

I’m surprised Facundo hasn’t transferred yet. He’s really talented, but can’t crack this lineup.

Bo will follow the money…. Iowa is desperate and OK State is trying to put two elite classes back back. Cael is on his own plan. You choose to be apart of it or you don’t. Good luck on whatever he chooses but at that age $$$ usually wins out.

Guys of his caliber don't worry about the competition in the room. They come in thinking they are the best. Remember Bartlett's freshman year, he didn't want to go 149 until late in the year, he thought he could beat Nick out.

He is already a marketing machine, he will make more than enough money wherever he goes. Money doesn't buy Olympic gold.

So when do the Franklin wankers come over & call for Cael to retire because he’s not dominating the state?

I am not the Bassetts nor do I pretend to know their motivations. As an outside observer, there clearly is not a better option of his 7 remaining schools for what he has listed as the things he is looking for in a school. If he goes anywhere other than Penn State, it is because a financial offer has been made that he/his family cannot refuse. As for his growth and development both in the next 4 years and at the NLWC above and beyond that, there is no school in existence that compares....those facts have been proven time and again. So, if he goes elsewhere, best of luck to him and the Penn State machine will continue to move forward. Cael won't be losing sleep over BB or any other recruit who chooses to go elsewhere.

As far as the lineup goes, 141 looks to be the best option for next year. Van Ness and Kasak both have 2 more years, it is unlikely he would be breaking the lineup at 149 or 157 until they clear out. Given that he is wrestling 144 currently, that would involve a bit more of a cut, but I am honestly not sure how much he is cutting now, if at all.

We have Marcus Blaze already committed and he will probably move up to 141, rather than cut down to 132. Blaze and Duke are better than Bassett and Forrest, but it will be an interesting 4 year for wrestling fans.

If he comes out this year he would most likely have to beat out Marcus Blaze at 141 and that isn’t guaranteed. His path is more open at OkSt.

Not sure that “Blaze and Duke are better than Bassett and Forrest” but we will probably find out since I don’t see Bassett and Forrest coming to PSU. Duke will likely be wrestling at a heavier weight than the others.

I could see Kasak moving up since he is very lean at 157. With 184 opening up after this year there could be some shuffling. I can see Levi ending up at 184 but not sure Messenbrink will move.

Nik Bouzakis was a deviating miss. The ohio State 2022 class was to unseat Penn State. Time will tell. The room is loaded. In Cael we trust.

Greg, thanks for posting. What is your gut feeling on this one...I've seen the $5 million number floated out there and that seems ridiculously absurd for a college wrestler. Even Bo said in the article that things are being said that are "laughable."

Laughable, but comparable … so will take it if they’re all offering it!

More about the wrestling… presumably he was watching Friday night…

I don’t think anyone is surprised to see us, them, and OKST in play…

So OhSU, Michigan and Rutgers out…

Is there a connection with VT?

If it's not Penn State, I'd much rather that he goes to Oklahoma State than to Iowa.
