I guess it depends on where you've been getting your info. I've only been relying on established sports media guys that reference sources when they speak on it. Nothing has changed in regards to that info. If you're only getting info from guys like this, giving their uninformed opinion, then I can see how you would think that. But in reality, nothing has changed in the last 10 days.
Nobody reputable ever reported Clemson and FSU to the Big 10. Not that I saw anyway.

Actually, I didn't even see this article till this thread started, and I can't make this clear enough, it was just another piece of fodder thrown out there for clicks.
You seem to think that I am defending those out there who were promoting the FSU, Clemson rumors. So for the last time, a lot of talk out there about FSU and Clemson leaving, and now the narrative is completely different, that is what I'm stating, nothing more.

Didn't say anything about you defending anyone. Just saying if you (or anyone else) got your info from uninformed twitter handles then I can see where you think the narrative has changed so these national guys can CYA. However, folks that actually make a living doing this stuff haven't changed anything. The programs created the narrative that they were leaving sooner rather than later. It got picked up by twitter and youtube "experts", and a lot of people bought into it, retweeting and running to message boards reporting it.

Right now they both have an easy path to the playoffs (assuming FSU is back). If I were their AD I would choose more playoff appearances over more money.

So just 2 weeks ago all the experts told us FSU and Clemson were going to the B1G. August 15 comes and goes with no announcement, and now all of sudden there is reporting there is no interest.
Prime example of CYA.
Wait till the off season when news is slow, this will start up all over again.
Thaaaat's right.

If they're stuck, they're stuck because of the financial constraints the ACC has put in place, not because they wouldn't be absorbed if they were free.

I know as much as you do, which is nothing. However, if FSU is to be believed (along with many posters on here) the GOR is no obstacle at all.

It's not a complicated formula. Clemson and FSU need two non-negotiable things to leave the ACC:
1. A financially feasible means of getting out of the ACC.
2. A place to go.

They only need those 2 things, but they must have both. If they had those 2 things, there would be an announcement. That nothing has happened tells us at least one of those is missing. In reality, both are probably missing.

For all the bluster, FSU has not presented any possible means for leaving the ACC. If they had a real way out, they'd just say it.

But, if you want to believe them that the GOR is not an obstacle, then it only leaves the possibility that they have nowhere to go. They aren't going to declare they are leaving the ACC without having a plan to join another conference. Which tells you no other conference has invited them or agreed to take them in once they leave the ACC.

In one of the many articles that have been written on this, the Big 10 was deterred due to the GOR. No point wasting time right pursuing someone who cannot be made available.

I don't believe that the GOR is no obstacle, as I stated in another post just moments ago.

I have faith in their brand. They might have been absorbed already had they not been in GOR jail.
Maybe. What Dodd stated is what I've read elsewhere as well. At the end of the day it's the networks that will decide. And they may have brand recognition, but they don't have great ratings.

Was hoping the ACC had caught Pac12itis but after reading this thread not so sure. It does seem the ACC has made some of same mistakes that the Pac12 did. The ACC has two FB teams(not counting ND)that have CFB sustainability. Both of those want out.
The fact that FSU didn't run its mouth on Aug 15th speaks volumes.

They play in the wrong league. It's their own fault, though.

This isn’t “no”. This is just, “not now”. Don’t read too much into this. Clemson and FSU will be in the SEC soon.

Or for whatever reason the conferences and tv networks are slow playing expansion. Why not move all the teams at one time? I think things take time and for whatever reason the timing is not right if you were espn or fox why pay for those teams now. You really can wait a year or 2 and save some money. Clemson and fsu will have the same money disparity they do now until it increases. No hurry to do anything until that happens. I think that’s why most talking heads say “it’s a matter of time”.

This article was written in 2011. Take it for what it is worth.

Didn’t make it past the first paragraph because it was blown out of the water. The sec was already in Texas and took Texas so that’s not true.

OK. So you're betting that they find a way out of the GOR. I'm still holding firm on 2030. B12 contract is up, ACC contract nearing completion. Gives SEC/B1G/B12/P12 (whatever is left) some breathing time to let some dust settle. Makes sense to me.
From the way Clemson and FSU talk they are not going to wait that long. They are to worried about the money disparity.

I would love to know what makes all so sure because ultimately this is daddy’s decision and daddy is ESPN.
B/c you can't add them all. I just believe, as I've seen and heard from others in the industry, that ESPN would rather NOT lose the entire states of NC and VA to the B10. I heard McMurphy in an interview a few weeks ago say that ESPN would not increase their deal to the SEC for Clem/FSU. I don't know if that's sourced or just his opinion, but either way, it's better info than anything any of us would have.

Of course they're talking that way. And they should be worried about it. Here's a breaking news alert for you. I'm worried about my income level, and and actively looking for a way to double my salary. My employer is on notice.

The B1G wants UNC and UVA. CU and FSU do nothing for the SEC. B12 would take CU and FSU.
This is what I'm thinking as well. It's going to be a fight for those NC/VA markets. ESPN would rather have multiple conferences in the same state than one conference. They're making $ off of the ACCN and SECN in SC. They'd love to just swap out the ACCN for a B12N. They're not going to get anything more out of the carriers just b/c the SEC added another team in SC.

All emphatic statements, and I've read several here, are premature.

I disagree here, I think you are vastly underestimating branding and matchups, while over analyzing tv markets. Tv markets are not what they use to be. People can watch anything anytime. Sure 20 years ago but streaming is changing that game and in 10 years ESPN won’t even be on cable tv. They have said so themselves. Be it they did not give a time line that’s others speculation.

He’s one guy, I can list several others media personnel that disagree. Why is he the end all he all, because that’s what you want to latch on to. Your bitter hate for Clemson and the acc had your judgement clouded. I refuse to believe those two brands will be left in a subordinate conference. They bring eyes to tv for big matchups the proof is in the pudding.

Brands attract eyeballs at least as much as territory. You could have exposure in a market, but if your brand isn't captivating there, people ain't gonna be watching.

Nope. I’m just listening to people when they speak. Stanley isn’t concerned about adding matchups. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. He’s concerned he’s going to have too many matchups to put them all on national television. He’d much rather have AU vs OM playing coast to coast vs just in AL/MS. He just said this a few weeks ago. He doesn’t want a regional setup like the NFL. It’s just my opinion that the SEC is just in a different expansion strategy. And that opinion is based off of what sports journalists and the SEC commissioner have said.

Not really. Thammel, Dodd, and Finebaum have said the same thing.

I actually like the ACC and hope it stays afloat. It brings another element to football in the south. On the flip side, can you name a reputable sports journalist that has said Clemson/fsu are going to the SEC?
They’re right where they want to be. They just want a little more money. Don’t believe the hype.

More about good football. Nebraska is a national brand. But they can’t get on TV bc they suck. When we were good people watched us. Clemson doesn’t have a national brand. But people watch bc they’re always on TV and they’ve been a top 10 program. They’re interchangeable.
