Great power hitter.

Who remembers when NBC had the Monday Night MLB games. Sometimes they would have a guest announcer like Dizzy Dean or some older celebrity.
Well my father was a Tigers fan so when ever they were on, we would watch them and I was allowed to stay up until the end of the game.
So I remember a game when Howard was playing for the Tigers, probably in 72 and the guest was George C Scott who was a Tiger fan. It was late in the game and the Tigers were close or trailing and Howard hit one of his massive homers out of Tiger Stadium. Scott got so excited that I think Gowdy or Kubek said they had to catch him so he wouldn't fall out of the booth.
Weird how you can remember some obscure memory years later.

RIP and thanks for the memory.

The odd thing is that Howard was an All-American. In basketball.

Had a buddy (now passed) who played basketball with him in HS.
