Really enjoyed watching him and the Vikes back in the day. Only one to have played in Rose Bowl , Grey Cup, Super Bowl ( and co-star in the Longest Yard )

Joe Kapp, a quarterback who led the Vikings to the Super Bowl in 1970 and once threw seven touchdowns in a game, has died at 85, according to reports.

Fixed. Kapp and Garo Yepremian were indistinguishable when it came to throwing the ball. Compared to Kapp, Billy Kilmer looked like Drew Bledsoe. But I had all respect for Kapp, a straight shooter, a good man.

He was one tough football player. Only quarterback I remember that would try run over tacklers.

Hmm. '69 is kind of my earliest memory of NFL football . Remember more the ground and pound Vikes with the occasional toss. Kapp was rugged. Seems like Kapp threw a very catchable ball per the opposing team judging by more INT than TDs.

I was stationed in the Bay Area when he coached at Cal. The weekly highlight show was called “Bear Re-Kapp”. That’s all I remember of him, I guess that was pre-Sandy.
