I was not a Toby Keith fan (my mom is) but he did have some catchy tunes. He is a legend. RIP.

he once asked Clint Eastwood how he keeps going. Clint was in his mid 80s as this was in 2017 or so. Clint told him to "not let the old man in". His meaning was to never get old and fight age just as JoePa did. This inspired Keith and he sent Eastwood a rough recording of a new song he wrote named "Don't Let the Old Man In". Clint was just finishing production on a new movie named "The Mole" about an old man trying to come to grips with the mistakes he made in his life. Clint wanted to use it in the closing credits. Keith said that would be great and to give him a couple of months to refine and rerecord it. Clint said, no, I want it just the way it was done; raw and simple.

Sadly, Keith never made it to old age but this song hits hard.

Do you like jazz? Song for Wayman Tisdale, who ironically died young due to cancer. This one was always my favorite.

Man, that was powerful, didn't know that back story.

Aside from the rest of his great career, what he did for those troops on those tours (a lot at his own expense) - at that particular time - was really something special. The Angry American video is perfect. The looks on the faces of the soldiers in the audiences says it all.

RIP Sir.

My godfather's son saw him several times play in Afghanistan. He was stationed in a FOB with special forces and told me Toby never cared how many were around to listen he would always pick up his guitar and play. If there were not that many at the base Toby would still entertain and sing for them. Said he was a great person and really enjoyed just hanging and talking with the troops. Gone way too soon.

I didn't know this until reading it yesterday ..... Toby Keith was the first person to sign Taylor Swift to a recording contract. As part of the deal he kept/still keeps a 2.5% royalty on her recordings (at least the ones covered by the initial contract).

He certainly seemed to enjoy life.

Who are the cameos in the Red Solo Cup video? See if you can find them
  • Larry Bird.
  • Lance Burton.
  • Eric Church.
  • Roger Clemens.
  • Jeff Dunham.
  • Craig Ferguson.
  • Sammy Hagar.
  • Keith Urban? I think that’s him carrying a guitar

More from my Godthers son I am not putting his picture of himself and Toby up here but such a loss ...
RIP to a legend!!! @tobykeith came to our Forward Operating Base on both of my deployments to Afghanistan! During one show we got mortared and this guy refused to end the show and came back out and played! The second time he and his guitarist flew into a hot zone on a black hawk and sat on an ammo can and played for 20-30 guys! His songs 💯 uplifted us and reminded me how ******* bad *** this country can be!
