Amen to this. Great to watch golf this weekend and very happy for him. And 17 liv.I like Rory and followed him some at the Master’s this week. He represented the PGA vocally when a lot of guys took the Saudi money and ran off to play on their rinky-dink golf circus. The four million dollars he won doesn’t matter. It’s the green jacket and the grand slam. Yeah, Rory.
A bit much, how about free chat?Send him a membership card to 6Pack.
Yes, the $4M is nothing but a good start to what he won yesterday. I haven't looked in a long time, but at least it used to come with 10-years or more worth of exemptions to play any tournament on tour. I think 5 or more years of auto-qualifying for all the grand slam events. Lifetime exemption for the Masters. Not to mention sponsorship values soaring because now they can all say "Masters champion" on ads with him. It's a life-changing (or life-making) event. The four million dollars he won doesn’t matter. It’s the green jacket and the grand slam. Yeah, Rory.
He hit pretty much the same wedge shot on 18 in regulation. Then finally got redemption in the playoff, in more ways than one. That wedge push after he played safe and smart to lay up perfectly on the par 5 was excruciating to watch.
It wasn't an actual shank, but it was an inexplicable shot that went 25 yards off line.
That's tough to do when you are only like 80 yards from the pin.
Glad he got his missing major.
Agree, happy as well and would have been good with Rose too. I will say after watching the GC crew go on and on about Rory winning all week and particularly yesterday morning, the thought did cross my mind when Patrick Reed dunked on 17 and if he went on to win how entertaining their wrap up show (and the golf world in general) would have been. Greatest world wide meltdown in sports history. He hit pretty much the same wedge shot on 18 in regulation. Then finally got redemption in the playoff, in more ways than one.
I would have been just as happy to see Rose win, though. He played an amazing round after it looked like he threw the tournament away on Saturday..
Don't disagree those were both epic "player" meltdowns but I was more referring to Patrick Reed of all people being the one to prevent Rory from his slam and what the general reaction would have been. No, the greatest meltdown was Norman in 96. Blew a 6 shot lead, shooting 78, and lost by 5. It might not have been as dramatic a meltdown as Rory's, since he wasn't missing short putts to win on the closing holes He lost his lead by putting one in the water on 12, and lost any chance of redemption by putting one in the water at 16.
Of course, back then they only televised the back 9. You could keep up with the leaderboard on the pre-tournament shows, and maybe ESPN (not sure if that was even allowed) So, by the time most of America saw Norman and Faldo on the 10th tee, the lead had already shrunk to 2 strokes.
ETA: of course, the runner-up meltdown was Rory in 2011. 4 stroke lead on the 10th tee, and he suddenly forgot how to play golf
What did he say about Bryson?Dude is neurotic. Love the guy and so glad you got a jacket. His mindset should be I’m going to get shoot 68 today and there’s nothing anyone can do about it and who cares about BD.
I will just say, I let out a "Hell Yeah!!!" when Reed 3 putt 13.Don't disagree those were both epic "player" meltdowns but I was more referring to Patrick Reed of all people being the one to prevent Rory from his slam and what the general reaction would have been.
This is why I pull for Reed. Everyone else on tour seems like they are best friends and are always polite. That’s not as exciting.Don't disagree those were both epic "player" meltdowns but I was more referring to Patrick Reed of all people being the one to prevent Rory from his slam and what the general reaction would have been.
