Contrary to my and many other people's expectations, I thought that he and his broadcasting partner called the game right down the middle. I detected no hint of slantedness, and he gave credit - mainly to Sellers, but also to others - where credit was due. I wish Kornblut had done as well through the years.

I agree, King. And as I said on other posts, if this is the crew we get while avoiding a cold night game at Death Valley, sign me up.

Agree, they called a fair game.

I would go so far as to say Philpott was EXCELLENT on play by play.

Acho..... Not the most skilled telecaster. But he was fair. Just not very good.
To me, the guys who can use the telestrator to show blocking schemes that made a play work, or swim moves, spin moves, and DB coverages that blow a play up are the best color analysts. That's probably why Herbstreit and Danielson are lead color analysts. McElroy is coming on very well.

Philpott did his homework on the Gamecocks. I just rewatched the condensed game on YT because I had to watch the game with my wife's fams at the Thanksgiving gathering-not ideal. Every last one is a clemson fan so it was a tad annoying. I never got the feeling he had any homer attitude or preconceived notions about clemson's chances in the game. Kudos! He impressed me. I hope RP keeps calling games.

I imagine there are clemson fans who are disappointed in him.

I understand the conversation - truly, I do...

Just throwing this out there - One of my favorites to listen to any game is Greg McElroy and whoever he's with , but I still put Kirk Herbstreit first. Just laid back guys talking about football. King Ward beat me to it.

Is RG III still calling CFB games? The times I watched a game he called I thought he was a natural.

The best part was when he called Harbor Luke Doty.
