Florida is a different animal. If UF is willing to buy him mercenaries every year through the portal, he can probably bring them back to relevancy fairly quickly. If he has to recruit it from the ground up, good luck with that. Miami is surging and central and northern florida get raided by the other SEC schools plus FSU and Clemson.

SI has a funny article about the 'College Football Coach Escape Plan' - in their scenario, everyone wins (or so they say):

  1. Florida fires Napier, hires Franklin.
  2. Penn State buys out and hires Cignetti.
  3. Indiana hires Mark Stoops.
  4. Kentucky hires Jamey Chadwell.
  5. Liberty hires Dabo Swinney (God's work).
  6. Clemson hires Todd Monken (Baltimore Ravens OC) and bring on Brett Venables as DC.
  7. Oklahoma hires Rhett Lashlee.
  8. SMU hires Lincoln Riley.
  9. USC hires Kalen DeBoer.
  10. Alabama hires DeMeco Ryans.
That would be alot of trains switching tracks. Who is the conductor?

If he’s still here he and his agent will be looking for an extension as soon as a year from now. Can’t recruit if he’s not
Guaranteed to be here for the duration of a kid’s time at PSU.
That's a false argument that used to be somewhat true, but not anymore. Every kid that has ever followed any sport knows there is no guarantee that the coach will be there for their duration.

It is still used against coaches in the recruiting wars.

That's fallacy or if someone actually uses it than it's stupidity. If anyone believed that in the past 15 years than Jimbo's abrupt exodus from A&M and Lincoln Riley's run to USC should have made it clear to all those who were still confused. The Portal is the final straw in this argument, as now the kid can go to any school that will have him without penalty. Before the portal kids were trapped if their coach left or was fired, but no more, and they know it.

Would probably do well there. Like here. He's not going to get Florida to Georgia, Bama, LSU, Texas levels though.
And that’s the rub. Florida is a 4-year gig for Franklin. Tops. And there would be major pressure to turn things around fast. Imagine the first time he farted away a game vs Georgia or Tennessee or Bama. Meltdown mode.

Sandy on her way out after letting Franklin and his agent con Penn State into a 10 year extension while he was 7-4 (finished 7-6) in 2021:

There was a time when I actually hoped PSU would escape major Sandy Barbour collateral damage. Then the 10-year extension came.

The woman is grossly incompetent. Like all-time caliber incompetence.

Florida not getting rid of Napier…per ESPN

Just more reason to hate T™️osu. If PSU beats T™️osu, Franklin is a hot commodity. uf sh|tcans napier, and Franklin is house hunting in Gainesville.

If Allar just runs three yards, we are better. For f*ck’s sake.

$26 million buyouts tend to make AD's see the good in coaches... ;)

Yep. And $26M was just for Napier. There would be additional costs for his entire staff (the amount dependent upon how their contracts were worded), and then the costs of a new coach and staff.

Talked to Gator friend/booster today. Upped the offer to the buyout and TWO lbs. of scrapple. He said he'd rather have Napier.

I heard McElroy today and he said he believes coaches this year will be brought back because they want to save their money for NIL instead of buyouts. He also said that he expects a salary cap for players at some point.

Who is the source of this rumor? Some nerd sitting at a computer on a slow sports day or anyone with any genuine info?
The Florida AD announced a new program to upgrade from their recent 5th and 6th place SEC finishes to permanent 3rd place status behind any two of Georgia, Alabama and LSU. Franklin is the obvious choice to implement such a plan.
