Saban: "TAMU bought every player on their team"

Probably not a popular opinion, but I'm not all that sure how much Bama actually cheats to get players (well, it was cheating under the old system). They don't have to. More players would probably go to Bama to play for free for Saban than take money to play somewhere else.

Saban has former assistants all over the place, including, of course, Jimbo. If Bama was buying players left and right, they could blow the whistle on Saban. So it's interesting to me that Jimbo's rebuttal didn't throw any accusations towards Bama.

Lynne Lang and Albert Means have a word or two to say about this.

Agreed. Saban is a lot of things, but he's not a cheater or liar.

Yeah. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but he seems like the SOS type. Feels he's good enough to win without cheating. Spurrier played it as straight as anyone ever has, and Saban seems the same. And Saban puts it all out there. With as many connections as he has in the game and with all his success, someone could very easily blow the whistle on him, and probably would have if there was anything there. With all the prevalence of gotcha journalism these days, you can't tell me no reporters have done any digging there.

If Bama's success was primarily due to them paying recruits, it doesn't explain why they were fairly mediocre for quite a stretch before Saban came along.

I'm not naive enough to think cheating doesn't happen, but there's a pervasive mentality among Gamecock fans that anyone who's better than us are just cheaters.

My take: Nicky is not happy that this year he does not have the No.1 recruiting class, which now belongs to TAMU. He calls out TAMU and even
Dion Sanders for using NIL deals.
He just may see the days of the invisible Bag Man advantage starting to disappear, and he doesn't like it. .

The ncaa is impotent. Blowing a whistle means what?

I know I'm in the minority but it's hard for me not to like Saban.

It doesn't make much difference to me if Alabama or Texas A&M have the #1 recruiting class in a given year because neither of those are my team, but I do worry about where NIL will take college football in general. It all has the feel of a nuclear reaction that has the potential to melt the whole thing down.

Two things are clear.

1- A&M has bought their players
2- They didn't appear to break any rules.

They both appear to be correct.

This is going to be fun to watch.

Quite entertaining.

He trashed Nick pretty good. If Nick's as dirty as he suggests and if working with him is as awful as he suggests, it's hard to believe nobody's tried to leak any info on him.

I don't really buy that Nick's all that dirty, but it sure is entertaining.

F Saban and Bama. Bama has cheated since Biblical times. SEC has always favored them.

Lost all respect for Saban with his intrusion into politics. Hope they lose every game, except vs Clemscum.

In their early Bryant years, they literally has the best roster money could buy. But when you got the ball rolling like they currently have, you don't have to cheat much.

To me, this just makes the league better. What other league has the drama this league has?

Amen to that! I think we already know where it takes not only college football but all college (amateur) sports. Wait til Dawn goes on a tyrade because her women players aren't making as much as the QB on the football team! So, yes, a nuclear reaction is a good description. NIL ns the transfer portal will ruin the atmosphere of college football that has been in our lives for a very long time (depending on your age of course). I posted a while back that fans will no longer be discussing the teams in reference to the college they play for, but more about how much they make, who is paying more money, who broke their contract deal, on and on. Well, it has already begun, welcome to the world of the NIL and the transfer portal, the new "all about me and not my team" sport; all about money. I guess if people like the NFL they may like the new atmosphere of college football, but I no longer watch the NFL for some of these very reaosns. Another great American pastime destroyed.

I do subscribe to that theory. Leagues are better when there is a maximum of internecine hatred. This is gold for the SEC. Right now, there is no league dynamic anyplace else that compares to this one.
Hate and discontent can be quite entertaining.

It doesn't make the whole league better though. Just the winners of the NIL lottery. I mean, if you want to see Bama challenged in the west this will probably do it. But the poor get poorer.

Making the whole league better isn't the job of the top-feeders.

If jimbo knows about bad things that nick has done then why didn't he expose them in the press conference?
All that innuendo just enhanced the drama. I can't see how people don't love it. There are only 11 minutes of action in a 60-minute game anyway. These episodes are golden.

Well, if Saban has as much dirt under his nails as Jimbo suggests, then I'd expect some revelations to be forthcoming. When someone is as outspoken as Saban was, specifically naming other programs, there are 2 options: 1) He's clean so he doesn't fear being exposed or 2) He's dirty but is confident that it's covered up sufficiently well that nobody will ever know.

In a society that thrives on tearing people down, I find it exceedingly hard to believe that nobody has ever tried to uncover dirt on Saban.

Some explanations.

1. He was just deflecting by making vague, unfounded allegations to plant the seed of doubt in the minds of others.

2. Jimbo was involved in dirty dealings at Bama, so to expose Saban would be to expose himself.

3. They're all dirty, so a coach knows if he exposes another coach, then that coach will exposed him and so on. Kind of like nations not using nuclear weapons because they fear someone would then use nuclear weapons on them.

All I know is, Nick's comments are just BEGGING for him to be exposed if he's dirty. Wouldn't ESPN, all media and most non-Bama fans everywhere just eat that up?

Like the way politicians will inexplicably fold and go against their constituents' wills when it maters most. Bribery or blackmail.
