SEC shut out of playoffs?

I don't think Michigan loses, but FSU could easily lose.

But think of this, if Michigan and FSU win, can you leave out an undefeated P5 champion?

You would have FSU, Michigan and Washington in.

Then who gets the last slot? Not Georgia, not OSU. It would be between Texas and Bama. Any other year Bama gets the nod, but there's that game they played earlier in the year.

That being said, I think FSU loses, and chaos is averted.

Bama, UGA, Michigan & Washington

UGA plays Washington in the Championship and blows them out of the water

That would be a riotous way to end the four-team playoff. Actually, I think either FSU or Michigan has to lose to get an SEC team in.

Pulling hard for Louisville and Iowa tonight, but I'm not sure Iowa could score points on Furman, much less Michigan. So, I'm going all-in on Louisville. It would truly be a travesty if the SEC did not have a team in the playoff, especially since the two best teams in the country are both from this conference.

I agree Louisville is the best shot.

I can't argue the "two best" idea though. There is a Texas team that could argue that.

I know it's hard to leave an undefeated team out but no way Florida State comes close to beating Bama, Texas or Georgia w/o their QB. Put the best four teams in regardless of conference.

FSU shouldn’t get in regardless of what happens tonight. 2nd or 3rd string QB makes them not even close to a top 4 team. Don’t care about the whole body of work for the season. If the committee has been tasked with the best 4 teams at the moment there’s no way they can justify that. It sucks for FSU that Travis got hurt, but it is what it is. That being said, I don’t think the committee has the backbone to leave out undefeated FSU whether they’re too 4 or not.

Best case is a qb hurt FSU losing to Louisville. If they win, it will suck for some team and FSU will be killed in the playoffs with a second or third string qb

If FSU and Mich win, would be them Washington and Bama

With that though, you're putting Bama in over Texas, who has the same record, also has a conference title, and beat them head to head in their own stadium by double digits.

I think leaving out FSU is more likely.

I'd probably take all undefeated teams (no not Liberty) and the one loss teams with the highest ranked loss and be done with it. Easy peasy.

I’m going with the undefeated and the one loss team I think is currently playing the best. Can’t argue with your opinion though

Here is how i feel as of this second.

1) Washington (undefeated)
2) FSU (undefeated)
3) Michigan (undefeated)
4) I hate to say it but…… Texas.

During the regular season Texas beat Alabama, who beat UGA. Alabama winning the SEC just cancelled UGA and the SEC out of the playoff.

Sure, they can argue that, and it wouldn't be completely without merit. But they should not have lost to a 2-loss Oklahoma team. If Alabama or Georgia make it to the playoff, they are probably going to win it all.

Yeah, I agree. It seems like an undefeated P5 team has to be there, but looking at FSU midway through the 2nd quarter of this game, if they were playing any of the playoff contenders tonight, they would be getting smoked.

Some games are still pending. But as of this moment i feel…

1) Washington
2) FSU (if they win out)
3) Michigan (if they win out)

4) I hate to say it but- Texas.

Regular season Texas beat Alabama, who beat UGA this evening.

The only thing is- I feel that Alabama and UGA would likely beat my listed top3 at this point in the season. But what happened, happened. I think if anyone from the SEC is in, it should be Alabama. UGA had a cake non-conference schedule. Where Bama played Texas.

It’s a tough call that someone has to make.

Bama or UGA would clobber FSU.

This is that age old argument. Do we pick on resume, or just teams we think would win/be better.

I can see the merit of both sides, but I heard an announcer from one of the earlier games say it well.

If you put Bama in over Texas, or drop fsu for a team with a loss, why bother playing the games at all? Just pick the 4 (soon 12) teams on the "eye test".

If you're looking at it strictly on paper, or as a computer might score it, your logic holds - and that may very well be how the committee sees it. But if you are setting out to put the best 4 teams into the playoff, combining the body of work with the "eye test," how do you possibly leave out a 12-1 SEC champion who just scored the best win of the entire college football season, and possibly the last 3 seasons, by beating the 2-time defending national champion who was going for their 30th straight win in their home state? We can say that what Georgia has done for the past 2 years doesn't matter, but we all know that's a lie. An undefeated 2-time national champion carries with it a level of credibility that nobody else in the country has. And when you defeat that team to win the SEC title, you've done something. You've done enough to overcome a close loss back on Sept 9th. And, as for FSU . . . ugh. They do not look good tonight. Like TCU last year, they would be a wasted spot in this playoff.

Bama is 12-1 with the most victories over top 13 opponents in the playoff era. Nobody has a better resume.

To be fair, they shouldn't be weighed on anything but this year, even though we know that doesn't happen.

But THIS year, Texas's resume beats Bama's.

Well, the exact chaos needed to happen, did happen.

I admit to playing a bit of devils advocate. I think Bama and UGa would kill that FSU team from tonight. But also, as the announcer pointed out, FSU won't play that qb in the playoffs.

I am honestly curious which mentality will win out. Best 4 according to feelings and "eye test" or best 4 based on the games played.

I think McMurphy is right.

If FSU were to get in, that would put Bama and Louisville in the Orange Bowl. No one wants to see Louisville ever gain after tonight.

FSU will get a chance to make a statement against UGA. They can prove they belonged, or not.

Just don’t see how you keep out an undefeated power 5 in a TEAM sport.

You didn't need to wait on McMurphy, these are the four I said in an earlier post.

If a 12-1 SEC Champ, that just beat the #1 team in the country, gets left out, I’ll be schocked.

Bama or Georgia would beat FSU anytime or anywhere and it wouldn’t be close.
