Dabo is full of crap. What difference does it make to the businesses in Clemson if the game is on Friday or Saturday? Also, a night or late afternoon game on Friday would be a bigger economic boon to the town than a noon game on Saturday. HIs concern for the students coming back on Thursday is also a joke. Every college student I know would love to go back to school on Thursday afternoon for a big game on Friday and a long weekend of partying before classes start back on Monday.

Dabo just wants to be the center of attention by "standing up" to the network. Dabo may have a bigger ego than Deion.

I agree with Dabo's take. It's not just students but you're asking a lot of fans to cut their Thanksgiving time with family short to be there for a Friday game.

Now, if Dabo had agreed to having the game on Black Friday, our fans would obviously be blasting him for that decision as well, haha.

That may be your family. Most families I know are ready to get out of dodge within a couple hours of slicing that Turkey. All that would happen is someone starting to argue over politics or something. Unless, you are working, most people aren't doing anything on that Friday except shopping. If you have a game on Friday, you shop on Saturday instead of Friday. Even the shopping on Friday is out for me now. I just get the things i want online. Maybe do online shopping for about 30-45, Merry Christmas, and on to the new year.

I agree. While I personally like it better on Saturday than moving it to Friday, I am not going to use some lame excuse of how it will hurt attendance and all the other crap he is claiming. They can play that game any day of the week at any time of day including Thanksgiving. There is nothing wrong with just saying that you do not want to change the day because you like it better on Saturday than any other day of the week.

Most families I know are just the opposite.

See how that works? Maybe the families I know are just happy, functional families. There's nothing I love more than that time spent with family from Wednesday-Saturday/Sunday. For that reason, Thanksgiving week is one of my favorites of the year. Football comes and goes.

Now, if Dabo had agreed to move the game to black Friday, don't act like you wouldn't be on here blasting him for making such an awful decision that way.

You're speculating that everyone hates Thanksgiving and hates their family as much as you do. That's probably not the case for most. All anyone can really say against Dabo's decision is that they think it's stupid. That's not a strong argument.

lol, I don't get what's so galling about Dabo's decision and reasoning. When I first read about it, my thinking was "that makes sense".

To me, this is a classic case of our fans just looking for ways to be mad at Dabo.

Because regardless of the time or day the game is played, the fans will show up regardless. Changing the day would not affect any of that.

Possibly. I don't know. Even if that's the case, I don't know it's the right thing to impose on the fans just because "they will show up".

Exactly. UGA vs GT is Friday night and there was no drama in the decision. I can promise you Athens will be packed with fans as would Clemson or Columbia or wherever a rivalry game is played. TV threw a little shade at Dabo about this by making the game a noon kickoff. I am sure it would have been an afternoon or night game if it was on Friday. The nightmare of getting into that podunk town means there will be almost no tailgating before the game and the nightmare of getting out means people will not hang around long after the game since it will be getting dark within a couple hours of the end of the game.

I don't know whether people love family time or hate it but I do know a Friday afternoon/evening game wouldn't destroy family togetherness.

I don't see it as imposing any more than a Thursday night regular season game. I would argue the Thursday night game is more of an imposition on fans because they have to take Thursday off of work if they have to travel any distance and probably take Friday off of work if they have to get home very late.

That's one of the factors those decreased in popularity. NFL largely took it over, but universities were not scrambling to get the games back. Having it coincide with one of the biggest holidays of the year, though, is a confounding factor.

Since you think he was lying with his excuse, what do you think his sinister ulterior motive is?

Again, my whole issue is with the lame excuses Dabo used, not the fact that they did not move the game. I am glad it did not move. Mainly because I just like it being on Saturday.

I actually miss Thursday night games. I used to love it when the Gamecocks would start the season off with a Thursday night game. Even more so since that is always Labor Day Weekend. We could enjoy the game on Thursday and then have the rest of the extended weekend to watch other games and still go to the lake or something for Labor Day weekend.

One of my favorite Nashville trips for the Vandy game was when we opened the season up in Nashville on Thursday night. Went up on Wednesday, game on Thursday, Bar hop on Friday, Came back home on Saturday, and spent the rest of Labor Day weekend at the lakehouse in Eutawville.

Happy Functional Families, which I have by the way, also know that there are limits and they don't need to be around each other all the time. You have one of those "Little House on the Prairie" familes (You disparage my family with a barb I get to get a dig back) and that is fine. However, most people are going to movies, shopping, and doing everything but sitting around a campfire having family time. I have hosted Thanksgiving dinners in my home several times and I certainly would look at you funny if anyone besides the 5 members of my immediate family are still there after 7pm.

....because we know it is a bunch of gunk because many people don't live the way he is trying to claim. As someone said, they could play the South Carolina/Clemson game on Thanksgiving Night and would have a packed house.
