Shane Beamer in favor of college football scrimmaging against other teams
Over a decade later and South Carolina coach Shane Beamer continues to be in favor for the NCAA to make a change for college football.
Baseball has that as part of fall practice.I think they should be allowed 2 scrimmages. One home and one away.
Main concern would be injuries - intentional and unintentional
Tennessee comes to my mind right awayI assume they would have precautions in place to limit injury risk.
As to intentional injuries, I can't imagine that would be a concern.

Agree, just stating that TN has a reputation for intentional "unintentional" injuries and others may as well, so there is some risk involved.I think in most situations you'd be scrimmaging against smaller schools and probably in-state programs

Makes a lot more sense for baseball than footballThat was a lot of fun when it first started... softball anyway. I'm thinking 2009? Used to be a lot different than it is today. Many colleges would invite select travel teams to their place to play against them as a Fall schedule. It was a great time to be coaching a good travel team in SC.
Some colleges would invite three teams where we'd play each other once and each would get to play the host college team... on their home field. It would only count as one game for the college even though theyd play three. Other colleges would invite just one team where we'd play a tripple-header, make a day of it and again only count as one game toward the college schedule.
Truth is tho, it didnt go all that well for the colleges. Probably why those formats didnt last long. Lol. My team only lost one game that Fall against several colleges. That was to SMC (a national power at the time). Funny thing was they beat us with a few players I coached the previous year. Good times
I think he is on to something and this is getting discussed more and more. As a program, we dont usually come off the block too well early in the season in most years. This could help. Also would get younger players more playing time. If you are a program like cLemson, their schedule is so soft their younger players get lots of playing time that manh program dont see. Play two exhibition games in August....one home and one away. We could scrimmage schools like Virginia Tech, Maryland, NC State, UCF, GA Tech, etc.![]()

Yeah they are not comparable in that sense. Just bringing up baseball fallball triggered some good memories on how it startedMakes a lot more sense for baseball than football
If ESPN thinks they can make some money off of it, I'm sure it will continue to pick up steam. The idea seems to be picking up steam.

You bring up a good point on tampering imo. If something couldnt be put in place to prohibit a transfer to a scrimmaged school, I think I'd be opposed to the whole scrimmage thing.I like the way the NFL does it.... Not the preseason, just letting non rivaling teams practice/ scrimmage together.
The rules I'd put behind it are:
Limit the quantity of these to 2 per calendar year.
Add 1 additional practice to the spring and one to the fall to account for these, but they can be used within the same practice season if desired.
No broadcast or money generation allowed. Keep ESPN's grubby paws out of it.
Both schools must agree on the credentials of any media persons allowed.(if any)
Universities are allowed to block non graduate transfers to a school where an individual has participated in an inter-squad practice. This would keep tampering down among some of the sleezier programs while other players might be on their campus for a practice.
Whether internal or a scrimmage against another team, these spring games are nothing but glorified practices. Same with fall baseball scrimmages. The idea seems to be picking up steam.
I personally find the current spring game to be pointless as far as it being a fan event. I only ever watched one years ago when SOS was here and it was boooooring.
Maybe, like in baseball, nearby P5 schools, e.g., Georgia Tech, NC State, Wake, NCSU, etc.I think in most situations you'd be scrimmaging against smaller schools and probably in-state programs
