As someone who was once falsely accused of sexual assault against a young woman, I disagree with your statement about found
guilty or not. It does matter. And it also matters if the accusation is true or not.
He was clear. You are stating something of importance, but it’s simply not the same thing. CPL starts with an assault as a fact, whereas you start with a claim of assault.

In a perfect world any assault perp would be put away. And anybody accused of an assault that did not occur would be acquitted.

This thread is like one of those nightmares in which you're aware you're dreaming, but you're still freaked out by how reality is being flipped on its head. In this thread it's been promoted that reality is:

1. Some woman sexually assaulting students at some random high school is about PSU
2. Sexual assault is creepy, but not actionable. Just let it go.
3. If you sexually assault someone, but can get away with it, that's OK. You don't belong in jail. Good for you.

Yikes.

Re - read his post that I responded to - he said he does not care if people are found guilty or not. I say it does. Can't make this any clearer.

You are saying guilt is irrelevant?
That’s what you are reading? No. I’m saying I care that people who sexually abuse other people go to jail for life. No second chance, no parole, just jail for life. The courts will do whatever they do, which is irrelevant to my opinion that they should be in jail for life. If you had sexually abused somebody in your situation, my opinion is that you should be in jail for life.

I said I don’t care if people are found guilty or not in relation to my opinion. Mike has read it exactly as I intended it. Perhaps I didn’t word it clearly enough, but Mike has understood exactly what I was intending. Legal proceeding as separate from my belief that if one sexually assaults another, they should be in jail for life.

You're trying to bring the uncertainty of a legal determination into it, and he's just saying he wants everyone that has sexually abused anyone else to ... yes, be found guilty ... and then go to jail for life.

If some dude rapes a woman ... it happened ... factually, there it is - a rape ... but, for whatever reason, charges aren't brought, or he's otherwise not convicted ... you can still want that guy, as a rapist, to go to jail ... because he raped someone. You want everyone who actually did something wrong to actually held accountable for it.

But he’s starting with the premise that an assault occurred. Finding of guilt can happen or not under a real assault. Finding of guilt or not can occur when one did not occur. You are concerned about finding of guilt when one did not occur. He’s restricting his opinion to where assault occurred.

So, then, you guys let sexual abusers roam free in your town? I'm assuming you were kids then, so it's not your fault ... but, surely, the adults knew about it if it was so widely talked about.

How much do you want to bet he's a "try that in a small town" guy?

No need to fix anything, the statement stands. I don’t care if people are found guilty or not. Well, I do care but it’s irrelevant to my statement. If any person sexually assaults another person they should be in jail for life. Doesn’t matter if they were found guilty in a court or not.

I don't understand this comment. Who determines if the sexual assault happened? How would this process work of putting people in prison who haven't been found guilty? Who would be tasked with taking the person to the prison? What would they say to the prison warden when show up with someone? I don't understand this at all.

Holy god, this is not complicated. People are just being purposefully difficult. A sexual assault happened if a sexual assault happened. Want the legal definition, look it up. If that standard is hit, I want that person in jail forever. If you want to know how a person goes to jail, I guess you can look that up as well but I feel like all here know that process.
I’ll repeat this simple statement again for you guys having difficulty with it pick apart. I want all people who sexually assault other people to go to jail for life.

I think it became complicated when you said you want people who are found guilty and people who are not found guilty to go to prison for life. That's where the confusion comes from. It was a confusing way to say that you want people who commit crimes to be held accountable, which isn't even a hot take, but a popular opinion.

I guess so. My statement was pretty direct from the beginning.
I don’t believe I’ve ever had a “hot take” in my life.
