Smoking in my car.....

...so, I go home for lunch, leaving my car in the driveway - unlocked. I live in a decent neighborhood, no real crime, and never had an issue with any vandalism, etc. I did not pull into the garage, but leave it in the driveway because I am only home for an hour. I dash in because it is raining.

I am inside for an hour....come back out and get in my car to get back to work....and it smells smoky - like cigarette smoke. I don't smoke so I know it's not me.

I look around the inside of the car and see cigarette ashes. Which is weird, as....I don't smoke.

I look on the driveway and see more ashes (wet because of rain) and it looks like a shoe print - not mine, because the print is too small.

Really perplexed by this, because....I don't smoke. Getting back in the car, and I see the inside of the passenger door is wet, and the passenger seat is pretty wet. I thought I had left the window down by mistake, but they are power windows and they were fully up.

I run back in the house to get a towel to wipe down the inside of the car, and when I come back out, there is a woman, walking her dog, working her way up into my driveway. And she is smoking a cigarette. She looks startled to see me and just freezes. It took me a second and then it dawned on me - this woman ducked into my car when it started raiing, with her wet dog, and just sat in my car smoking. I asked her if she had been inside my car with her dog and was smoking. Then I asked her - why she was on my driveway.

She went Defcon 5 Karen on me - screaming at me as to who the hell do I think I am questioning her and what she is doing. She starts ranting and raving that I have no right to question her and that she is going to egg my house and cut the top of the roof of my Miata. Then, she storms off, with her dog in the rain, leaving me speechless. (Which is rare for me).

I have never seen her before, although I think she lives on another street as I have seen the dog (loose) in the neighborhood.

So, the moral to the story is - make sure your doors of your car are always locked.

Sounds like overkill, but I would call the cops. She sounds like a special kind of crazy.

I have a dashcam, front and back, and I looked at it just now. It clearly shows her walking up the driveway....and the a few minutes later, walking back out. (Dascham only shows what goes on outside the car, front and back). It also showed her walking back up the driveway when I spotted. her.

And she was certainly not attractive.

Wow.
Even though I live in an area pretty similar to yours as far as low crime, I always lock my doors.
Smokers are the freaking worst, and I don't care if I offend here....the world is their ashtray and they have no concept of the reek they create on fabric, hair, etc.
I'm hypersensitive to cigarette smoke...you showed great restraint, I might be in jail right now if someone smoked in my car.

Yeah, good point - if she snatched up my registration and insurance card, I could be in trouble if I get pulled over.

It was just bizarre - like she was entitled to be able to sit in my car whenver she wanted - with her damn dog.

What kind of dog was it? Depending on breed there's almost no way there's no hair in your car. Then you'd know for sure.

If it was one of those little long haired yip yip dogs though....

It looked like this....once I realized she had the dog in the car, I did look for hair and found a few that I was able to wipe up...

I think having a casual talk with the cops and showing the footage from your dashcam would be beneficial if things should escalate. She may be a known nuisance/criminal/drug addict/mentally unstable person. People like that obviously have some issues going on and once someone gets under their skin(like you did questioning her) they hold a grudge and do something stupid. I may be completely off base and not know what kind of neighborhood you live. There are whack jobs everywhere.

Hereā€™s the real problem if the dog pooed or peed in your yard, even if she policed the brass, now ever other dog thinks itā€™s ok to do the same in your yard

You might want to rethink locking those doors or you might end up with a broken window or worse. Sounds like you've made her list and may have to move.
