Franklin now the second longest tenured coach in the Big10 behind ratboy, Ferentz. Bloatlema has been back only 3 yrs despite his earlier stint at Wisconsin.

Fitzgerald sits out a year and everyone forgets. Next year Diaz leaves for another head gig and we hire Fitz as DC. I don't want to lose Diaz but we all know it's gonna happen. Fitz would fit in here really well.

So who gets the NW gig?
It's really late in the season to bring in a whole new staff but you have to bring in a whole new staff, right? What's the selling point? We really sucked last season so you don't have to win anytime soon?

One would think the current staff would also be let go since they generally have more day-to-day interactions with the players. How could they not have known as well?? My guess is NW will be hypocritical and name a current staff member as interim HC. But that seems to be their only option unless they want to totally nuke the football program for the next couple years.

Why not, that’s the line being heavily pushed over on the Rutgers Board by RutgersAl to buy Schiano another 3 or 4 years.

Northwestern is, obviously, a very fine institution in many ways.
That doesn't mean that when it comes to "leadership" of big $$$ college sports they can't put on a complete ****show to rival any of their cohorts.
They certainly knocked it out of the park on this one.

By the way, where is this nugatory apparatchik in this whole affair?

Fitz is going to get a boatload of $$ when it’s all said and done. You think the PSU investigation was bad, just wait until you hear this one. This is so messed up timing wise. If it wasn’t so late, the floodgates Would open. Just wait until this plays out.

Regarding the AD, maybe he is an adherent to the old saying that it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Decades, likely. The CFB scene is different from back when Joe was fired. I'm betting a lot of players. especially the younger ones, will put themselves into the transfer portal, and they may be lucky to field a team.

I also wonder if this isn't in some way similar to the Berhalter situation with the US MNT in soccer....

The new evidence is disturbing. It‘s sexual abuse. The former football players at Michigan or Ohio State spoke of the effects of sexual abuse by the team doctor. There was proof the coach knew because the informant said the coach clapped his hands over a player’s head, which was the sign the player was to be “run.” It’s like the Code Red in A Few Good Men. NW has not handled the investigation with transparency.

I thought the NCAA waived the rules and said PSU players could transfer without penalty?

Fitz didn't get terminated due to "sexual abuse". No one even claimed such things. Some of the pontificators threw nebulous terms like "sexualized" into their press bubbles - because they know which terms trigger the masses. But, even at that, such terms were for public fodder - that certainly wasn't what "triggered" his dismissal.
Fitz didn't get fired due to "hazing" either.

It's a clown show of the highest order. The two newbies to Northwestern - Schill and Gragg - really have done a number. I've never been a worshipper of Fitz, and he certainly doesn't need my help or support, but I would hope he pursues legal recourse and ends up with 2-3 times the $50 million or so they owe him.
Schill and Gragg (and, presumably, the Trustees at NW) won't have to pay for it out of their own pockets (too bad about that), but at least it would serve as some partial retribution for Fitz.

They’ll settle for somewhere in between is my guess. He doesn’t want more of this stuff out in the open or while he’s under oath. He’ll take what they offer and scoot.

In a related story, Fran Ganter was seen boarding a plane from State College to Chicago yesterday. Had a slip of paper in his pocket.

As a Penn Stater, I am flattered to see Northwestern trying to create a bigger clown show amongst their leaderers. Given that Fitzgerald is much younger and in better health than Joe was and will likely fight back, Northwestern may have succeeded. Of course, that would be what we’re up against.

I haven’t really followed this situation but just read the accusations this morning. I certainly read some things that appear to be sexual abuse whether the victims claim it as such or not.
