I often go to D3 games... Love it. My mother and sister still live in Doylestown and I sometimes go to Delaware Valley University games when back in PA visiting. Refreshing to see kids giving it their all and playing for the love of the game with parents and friends in the stands
One of these days I have to try an Otterbein or Capital game--and have thought about going up to Mount Union with a buddy.

So if you work a 40-hour week and only get compensated a "free" education that you barely have time to utilize, while everyone else makes millions upon millions off your labor, you can't be criticized ... but if you get more than that, you can be criticized? What a weird and arbitrary distinction.t
Spare me the victim crap. I knew Penn State players in college. They were treated like kings. And they actually valued the education part that you never hear about anymore. These poor kids are making millions now and criticism is part of the deal along with getting their asses kissed 90% of the time.

I’m pretty much there with him. At this point, who cares if you pay $20M and the other school pays $10M so you win most of the time?
As I rooted for the team on Thursday night, cheered on the big plays, felt joy for the game that Wheatley played after he stuck it out, felt pain for Allar at the end, etc, I didn’t give a **** how much any player was making. The thought never crossed my mind…it was just like watching every other big game over the past 35 years.

How many players on our team do you think are “making millions”?

I didn’t even watch the game. Just ran thru stats and then watched my key plays tape on YouTube tv. I’m hoping the Lions win it all one of these years so I can spend more time on amateur sports. Hoping my two youngest kids go to small schools up north or an Ivy or a MAC school (of course they are jumping into NIL too unfortunately).

I find being upset that players are making money so baffling. Upset when players leave for more money? Sure, because we're fans and want to succeed. But just generally mad that our own players who come and stay all 4 years made money? "I can only enjoy college sports if I know the players are destitute" is a really strange take.

They will lose to Oregon, Ohio State, and Iowa. The 4th loss will be either Indiana or Nebraska. That said, I have not been accurate on my preseason predictions for 47 straight years, but I am overdue. :)
No way we lose to Iowa and we owe Oregon next year.

I would never begrudge anybody making money… legally. I just can’t stand that there are no rules and it is the wild-wild west!

Get you, but with that, expectations naturally rise. As for this board, many are rightfully frustrated with the near constant losing of big games. Especially one like the latest, which was inexcusably blown. I'd say it isn't relegated to just this board. Penn State has earned a national reputation for losing these type of games. I mean you can't even watch a televised game of this sort without hearing over an over its record against big time opponents. It's gotten old. Very old.

Correct… there is no excuse for Singleton dropping a sure TD. He has to make that catch. No excuse for our corner and safety for falling down on Greathouse’s TD catch. No excuse for Allar’s dumb interception at the end of the game, ball should have been thrown away, go to 2nd down.

Unless and until our NIL (or payroll, as I prefer to call it) is top 5, we will never see a Natty. And with the divide between our alums and the BOT being deep and wide, that level of contributions is a pipe dream.

Talk about coaching, facilities, or tradition or anything else all you want, if you can't hire the best talent, you aren't winning it all.

yeah, keep blaming the NIL

This is like the people that said that James Franklin will never coach a team to the playoffs (I remember reading that a few times when we were down in games this season).
.

yeah, but did you notice the playoffs went from 4 to 12 teams

Awfully pessimistic view on the opportunity to witness a national title again when we were 1 play away from playing in the national title game last night. Not so sure about "pummelled" either, I agree we'd likely lose...but no matter how good OSU has been in recent years, we almost always play them tough, and often have the lead at some point in the game, so I don't think it was such a given.

I took Ohio State for a lot, cows still not home so continuing to add.
We've had a 4th quarter lead against a lot of top 5 opponents. But then **** happens.

I see my view as realistic. Next year will be an 8 win team. After that, who knows? This was the chance and we blew it.
A lot depends on who comes back.

QB - Allar
RB - Allen, Wallace, Martin (assume Singleton is gone)
TE - Reynolds, Rapplea, Dinkins
WR - Wallace, Evans, Denmark, Outen
OL - Shelton, Rucci, Ioane, Williams, Onoh, Birchmeier, Donkoh, Cousins, maybe Dawkins

DT - Durant, Izzard, Ford?
DE - Sutton, Vanover, Vilbert (assume Sutton returns)
LB - King, Deluca, Rojas, Wylie?
CB - Harris, Miller, Washington
S - Wheatley, Lane (assume Reed is gone)

P - Thompson
K - Barker

So what's different? We lose Warren but TE seems to be a strong spot. I assume we lose Singleton but keep Allen and get Wallace & Martin back. DT needs depth but I assume Ford returns. LB s/b be the same unless King leaves (late round or FA). I assume Reed leaves which will hurt. I can see PSU being just as good next year as this year. I don't think we win the NC but we should be in the hunt for a playoff spot.

The big spenders will dominate with NIL. The days of a team like Purdue landing and retaining a QB like Drew Brees are gone. The gap between the haves and have nots will be greater than ever. PSU isn't in the top 10 (like Oregon, OSU, & Michigan) but they have enough money to make a run from time to time. The only chance a team like Minnesota has is to load up on OL who don't cost as much as QBs and WRs. Then hope they get a favorable schedule and can pound out a 10-2 record.

In fairness to fairgambit, he's a Joebot who checked out of PSU football fandom a long, long time ago ... and he's been somewhere between salty and hiding-disdain-through-alleged-apathy ever since. If he posted something positive toward, or in an excited manner about the program, you'd probably want to call the authorities, because it's code for him being held hostage and he's in distress.
For someone who received an undeserved "free ride" to PSU, you seem rather unappreciative towards your alma mater and critical of elderly alumni.

As you've aged, do you now wish you attended college elsewhere?

We need a new "P". Franklin should be poaching the best he can find.

Swing and a miss, yet again, Nabob. Go back to one of your many former monikers.

Tell you what- you let me know the next time a team that isn't at or near the top of NIL funding wins a Natty. I won't hold my breath.

I guess Oklahoma, LSU, Oklahoma State, and Florida State have all surpassed PSU then

Correct, but I wouldn't describe those games as being "pummelled," and I wouldn't expect we would've been against OSU in the NC game.

Mount Union is the real deal. Delaware Valley has locked horns with them in the playoffs. D3 is just fun. Coaches sometimes are grilling burgers before games to help out the food stand. Just a wonderful innocent day watching football where kids are students first and athletes second. Families enjoy rooting on their kids. The quality of football is pretty good. Mount Union usually gets several OSU transfers as well.
