Overview of the book from the above link:

”In the Lions’ Den tells the true story of a scandal at Penn State University that unfairly resulted in the firing of the nation’s most successful and admired collegiate football coach and the respected president of the university. The book chronicles a criminal justice system run amok, political vindictiveness and retribution, moral panic, and the influence of a twisted media narrative. It is, in short, the anatomy of a smear, a memoir told by the university president who lost his job after an outstanding career in higher education. The story, which is so outlandish that it would be impossible to make up, involves villains and heroes, fear and bravery, the rehabilitative value of friends and family, and coping with adversity.”

He's only keeping one eye on you. He only has one good one left . . .
There’s an art to saying just enough, but not the whole thing. When you get there we’ll send you the instructions for the society’s secret handshake 😉

I don't think I will read it. My attention span is too short, I can't remember the last time I read a book. Usually get a couple chapters in and am done. I prefer news/sports articles. They are short and by the time I am bored with them, I am usually done.

When an idea and a mind collide and you hear a hollow sound, it doesn’t mean the idea was hollow.

I hope he addresses the dubious decision to not take the stand

Regardless of what judges say, that signals to the jury that the defendant has something to hide
Agree 100% Keyser. In a case like that, where the charge is so egregious, the defendant absolutely must testify. I think he got terrible legal advice and I can certainly understand how a non-lawyer feels compelled to take the advice of their counsel.

Received this email from Maribeth Roman Schmidt:

Good Afternoon,
I’m beyond honored to be assisting former Penn State president Graham Spanier in the launch of his long-awaited memoir, due out September 6, 2022. The truth has been so incredibly hard to come by, but it’s all here - accurate, factual, enlightening, indisputable. Had Graham been able to remain at the helm of this crisis, I’m confident the result would have been different. Please see his note below; I encourage you to share this email with your Penn State networks and to pre-order In the Lions’ Den now.
For the Glory,
Maribeth Roman Schmidt

Dear Friends,
I’m pleased to let you know my forthcoming book, In the Lions’ Den: The Penn State Scandal and a Rush to Judgment, a 512-page hardcover book, is now available for pre-order from Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and independent bookstores:
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/in-the-lions-den-graham-spanier/1141350354?ean=9798985699494

The book chronicles how my life and career were turned upside down almost overnight in November 2011 in a firestorm of breaking news concerning alleged child sexual abuse by former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Little did I know at that time that my life would unravel in a nightmare of false accusations and labyrinthine legal proceedings stemming from a scandal surrounding a man I barely knew and who hadn’t been in Penn State’s employ since 1998. It cost me my job, and in the eyes of those whose beliefs were driven largely by sensational media coverage and a discredited investigative report, my reputation. In the Lions’ Den is a personal memoir, told by a central figure caught up in the crush of those events. It reveals how and why the university and many individuals, including legendary coach Joe Paterno, were unfairly targeted in a colossal miscarriage of justice.

In the Lions’ Den exposes those who made false accusations, either for political or financial gain, including the former Director of the FBI whose investigation was widely condemned; the governor of Pennsylvania who was voted out of office because of his central role; the grandstanding NCAA president who imposed penalties that would ultimately be reversed; an attorney general elected on a promise to investigate the injustice who would be sent to prison for her crimes emanating from the debacle; the grand jury judge who would be accused of wrongdoing by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court; the lead prosecutor whose law license would be suspended by the supreme court for his malpractice; and the university’s general counsel who would be censured by the supreme court for her malfeasance in representing Penn State officials. The book also touches on the notorious Pennsylvania “Porngate” scandal that revealed a pornography ring operated out of the Office of Attorney General involving many of the same prosecutors, investigators, judges, and the state police commissioner who relentlessly pursued me. This book is for anyone interested in the real story of one of the biggest scandals in collegiate history, a factual historical account of the last ten years.

An audio version of the book, narrated by me, and an electronic version for downloading and reading are also available. Finally, I’m pleased to draw your attention to the book’s website, which includes an audio version of the Prologue and information about evolving media appearances, book signings, and advance comments: www.spanierinthelionsden.com.
Best regards,
Graham

Five hundred and twelve pages of nothing-burger. Welcome to academia. There will be nothing revelatory.

While I sympathize with Spanier to a degree, he failed miserably in his duty to protect Penn State.

Substitute trustees for Spanier
Not entirely. First off, Spanky could have directed Schultz and/or Curley to refer Magic Mike's report to the police. That gets the matter off his desk and protects PSU in the bargain. BoT is not involved at this stage.

Once the grand jury investigation begins, blame is shared. Spanky could have prepared for the coming maelstrom without any consent from the Board. As he didn't, the Board could have forcefully recommended or directed that he do so. In that respect, it failed.

The blame is shared, but it falls more squarely on Spanier.

I hope he brings down MM along with the others. I'm still convinced he lied throughout this.
Would love for that to happen, but it's not going to. To the best of my recollection, Spanier never spoke with Magic Mike directly. If he had other compelling evidence portraying Mike as a liar, a coward, or an imbecile (I take that one back, Mike himself is Exhibit A), we would have sen it at trial.

Ironic that Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State have all weathered much bigger scandals....because their governors didn't have an agenda and their trustees protected the universities.

And those schools didn’t deserve to be protected due to their scandals being real and heinous, whereas Penn State did.

F*ck everyone.
