Took the 1st set, tight 2nd set going on now.

Ole Miss's coach looks like she'd be on the crazy hot scale.

I don’t understand volleyball rotations. We were closing the gap with Schmidt in, but we almost immediately took her back out.

Can somebody explain that to me?

They blew this game like they did Alabama two days ago.

My daughter just closed out her senior year of vball. Volleyball positions move in and out somewhat like a batting order. That’s the simplest way to explain.

I'll add to this: you ever notice in volleyball there is one player on each team in a different colored jersey? That person is someone that doesn't have to exit the game. They have some other restrictions as well, but to me the big thing is they aren't subject to the forced substitution. I know nothing of volleyball other than that. I went to my 1st game last year and was curious why one player for each team had a different jersey and I Googled it. Prior to that I had no clue volleyball even had forced substitution.

That’s a libero. They’re like a defensive specialist that’s good at digging and getting down on the floor to save points. They also don’t have to rotate like the other players do.

I have a daughter playing D1 volleyball at South Florida. Volleyball has rotations of each player. There are 6 positions on the floor, 3 on the front row close to net and 3 across the back row further from net. Typically the front row players spike the ball to score and the back row players dig the ball to keep it in play with other team spikes. Players have to rotate to all 6 positions if they stay in the game. Some players are skilled in only front row or back row, others can do both and are called "6 rotation" players. So if a girl who spikes well leaves the game, typically it's because her position is rotation to the back row where she is a liability. Hence, they subsitite a defensive specialist in to play the back row 3 rotations.

They definitely have to rotate like the other players. They go clockwise like everyone else.
Liberos usually play back row for middles. Once the libero rotates to the front left position, they swap out with the middle that is in that spot and the libero either comes out of the game because the other middle is serving, or the libero goes and serves in place of the middle that just rotated into the back row. If the libero did come out, they go in for the second middle once that person is done serving.

The libero can swap in for anyone in the back row- that is the uniqueness of the position. They can bounce in and out for any player at any point in the rotation.

You are correct that the libero is a defensive position- they need to be loud and aggressive since they lead the back row and defense. They tell the front row where a set is going in defense, they tell front row where openings are to hit, and they usually take the 2nd touch if the setter had 1st touch or can't get to the ball.

The libero has some restrictions too-
- they can't attack over the net even from the back row, if they contact the ball above the net. That's why they pass the ball over almost all the time.
- they can set the ball with their hands if they are behind the 10' line. If they are in front of the 10' line, they have to platform set the ball for there to be a legal attack by a hitter.

The rules are odd seeming to many, but if you keep in mind that the position was created for defense only, the limitations make more sense.
