Shane Beamer on Gamecocks' playcalling
South Carolina coach asked about Gamecocks' playcalling.
We are 9 weeks into the season. If you have been evaluating every week and we know what the problems are, why not make changes. We "were" 5-2 mostly because of defense and special teams and not improvement on offense.
9 games this season. 21 games total for Satterfield. There’s been plenty of time to evaluate.“Every week, after every game, win or lose, we look at some things that we did well, look at the things we didn’t do well, how we have to be better as coaches,” he said. “When we were sitting here at 5-2 and nationally ranked, we did it, and when were’s sitting here and it’s not what we want it to be, we do the same thing. You’re always evaluating your team, always evaluating your program, and make sure you’re always doing what is best for the football team and the football program.”

Whether they work or not will be made public soon enough. One game won't tell the tale. Some changes happen that aren't made public. I can only hope something like that is going on behind the scenes here.
Articles like this are meaningless. This is a good example of "overcoverage" or news saturation. The man has only one acceptable comment he can make. Obviously, this is what he would say. We can only hope that the truth is different.![]()

P.S. Sure makes me miss Spurrier throwing his overpaid coaches to the wolves at times.
Sorry you feel this way.
Our numbers, historically, and even more so as of late, show that this type of story is among our most viewed and discussed on GamecockCentral.com.
You are correct in that people are almost hyper concerned with what coaches say in press conference. We actually talk about the angle you mentioned all the time, that sometimes comments are read into too much.
Just because Beamer said this now doesn't mean things won't change at some other point.
At the same time, we wouldn't be doing our job if we didn't report what Beamer said when he was asked the question.
We'll always balance this type of story out with more of what we think, what we're hearing, insider type stuff, which we'll have more of today.
We like to cover what a coach says in a press conference, plus what we hear behind the scenes, plus analysis, all that type stuff. Appreciate you being here.

Vandy has one of the worst defenses in college football. Whenever you have a high-powered offense face off against a stingy defense, it's often called the "irresistible force vs immovable object". Whatever the opposite of that is is what this game is going to be.
What is so sad is that we waste the first 3/4 possessions of every game. Satterfield's first 12 "scripted plays" produce nothing and waste possessions. That was never more obvious than in last Saturday's game (the first 3 possessions were 5 plays and then a couple of 3 and outs) or the first and 5 the defense gave us in the previous game.“Every week, after every game, win or lose, we look at some things that we did well, look at the things we didn’t do well, how we have to be better as coaches,” he said. “When we were sitting here at 5-2 and nationally ranked, we did it, and when were’s sitting here and it’s not what we want it to be, we do the same thing. I am not a football guru by any stretch of the imagination, but I have not been impressed with Satts play calling since, forever. Earlier I posted that I thought it might be a result of his field level view of the game vs being in the press box. That brought comments about other coaches being that way and being successful. Which, I think, kind of makes my case. We lost to Missouri by 13. Vandy lost by 3. That does say something about the play calling as well as Vandy's defense. We all want this team to be successful, and I'm sure Satt does, too. But can he make it happen? I'm not so sure.![]()
