"Another exciting change for 2022-23 athletic season features an enhanced student experience coming to Humphrey Coliseum. Coinciding with the start of the Jans and Purcell eras of Mississippi State Basketball, the student section at Humphrey Coliseum for men's and women's basketball games will move to sections 110-114 to place students closer to mid-court.

For the 2023-24 season, MSU Athletics intends to move the student section to 111-115, which will extend all the way down to the court to mirror the well-known student section of years past in The Hump. Additional court side seating options are continuing to be explored with architects."

Moved one section over?

I mean I guess that’s an improvement. What was the section in the mid 2000’s? Seemed a lot bigger back then. Maybe I was smaller. I know it was a different location but seems like it took up a lot more of the lower level.

One more section over to mid court was how it was in the early 2000s and it wrapped around to behind the basket.

From the graphic, it looks like it's moving one section this year (2022) and then another section the next year (2023).

So, it took a new coach who has yet to coach his first game at State to at least get the ball rolling in the right direction?

I'm pro-John Cohen, and always have been, but WTF man. Making the right damned decisions will always be unpopular to some, but bold, confident leaders do the right thing no matter the short term fallout.

Should have given them the first 10 rows of SEC 116 as well.
BUT, this is an improvement. Now the students have to do their part and show up and be loud.

If I had to guess moving the seats now probably has as much to do with the construction and a possible reseating anyway.

MSU should look at the way Auburn does theirs, 1 row of big$ courtside in front of 8-10 rows of students 3/4 around the court.

This is the way. And those rows of students are on camera, which leaves plenty of seating for alumni on the off-camera side. I *think* another part of this solution requires moving the team benches to the off-camera side as well, something about SEC not allowing student sections behind team benches.

I emailed Cohen in Feb 2020 about this

His response was they were looking into a solution. Yeah, two years later but he delivered. Ben had no power to change this. Nor Jans, just good timing with the construction.

This was a Byrne/Stricklin thing. Facts and all.
