It could get really rough in the old days, 40-50 years ago. I’ve heard tell that the 60s were mayhem; I never saw him play but I’ve read of Night Train Lane absolutely mugging people.

Are you from ohio? You've exhibited ohioish behavior in the past and you're doing it again now. I'd just like to know what I'm working with.

Does it count as much if he let the much easier pass the play before go through his hands?
He was building emotional excitement that led to the ultimate climax of catching the winning td when all was on the line,

I live in Swann's neighborhood. He is doing well, plays a lot of golf, and looks great. I am hoping I get an invite to play at his home course, Augusta.
Sat next to Swann on a flight from Chicago to Pittsburgh many years ago when he was working for ABC Sports.

Pretty unassuming guy. And he was small/slight fur any athlete - especially an NFL superstar.

It's hard to discern ohioans from contrarians sometimes.

Who's gonna throw a flag on a riled up Lambert?
Interesting story about Lambert. The Steeler scouts attended a Kent State practice to scout him. Kent State had moved their practice that day to a parking lot of mixed gravel and hard top since the fields were too muddy. During the practice the Steeler coaches witnessed Lambert diving to make a play. What followed? "With the next pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Jack Lambert, from Kent State University".

Another story after the Lambert draft was that the Steelers were scouting linebackers and had actually favored another player. They requested additional film on the guy and noticed he ducked his head when making a few tackles, so they cooled on him and got more film on Lambert. While evaluating his film they noticed that Lambert would spit in face of a QB as he was calling signals on a key play. Sealed the deal. Steelers felt he had the intensity they were looking for.

I had the opportunity to have dinner with Cliff Harris at a charity event several years ago. When we were being introduced one of the things I said was I am a Steeler fan/grew up in Pittsburgh. Without and prompting, the first thing he said to me was Jackie Smith was a great tight end and he should not be known only for the play you posted. Also went on to say what a great person Jackie is. I think that says alot. I also get the fact that he is standing up for his guy but he didn't need to say anything about this particular play.
The myth is that Dallas would have won the game
