HR may have a reason, but obviously you haven’t been around a lot of letting go (which is good for you). Decency? A company could care less about decency over covering their butt.HR is going to want you to have a file for the very reason of avoiding litigation. Particularly with protected class. It’s also common decency.
They didn't deserve one. He sucks at his job.Total bush league, if they indeed did not get an explanation
I know how corporations act but there was no reason to be all corporate here. But common decency is just secondary.HR may have a reason, but obviously you haven’t been around a lot of letting go (which is good for you). Decency? A company could care less about decency over covering their butt.
I agree they were bad at it but they clearly didn’t know that. And I don’t agree with that at all. They should have gotten written warnings after the terrible hype videos. They didn't deserve one. He sucks at his job.
I’ve seen that too. But it’s the exception, not the norm (from what I’ve seen).I know how corporations act but there was no reason to be all corporate here. But common decency is just secondary.
From their side of the story they were blindsided which means they never even got a warning of any sort. Which is nuts to me. I couldn’t fire someone without multiple written warnings
...and firedI agree they were bad at it but they clearly didn’t know that. And I don’t agree with that at all. They should have gotten written warnings after the terrible hype videos.
Under 28 is not a protected class…My favorite part of the thread was where he opened the university to an age discrimination lawsuit with the under 28 comment.
Over 40 is though. If you make a big deal about everyone being young but a 45 year old applied for a position on that team, there could be grounds for an equal employment lawsuit.Under 28 is not a protected class…
“She’s SO big that when she danced, the band skipped”******well, how big IS she?***
Yes he did. It was a a football only media team that he hired and brought on when he got hired.Lebby didn’t fire the media team you doofus.
I agree, that's the first thing I thought. Who posts that they just got fired?I'll tell you this. They are all whining on social media and making it worse. They will have a hard time getting a job in collegiate athletics again based on their public responses on social media.
If our head FB coach is managing/hiring/firing a creative team that’s an organizational cluster17Yes he did. It was a a football only media team that he hired and brought on when he got hired.
No intelligent rebuttal! Thanks for confirming my point.
So lebby hired them and we are mad he fired them?Yes he did. It was a a football only media team that he hired and brought on when he got hired.
his wife is an alum and their daughter goes there now. he is in oxford a decent amountJust another area where we are letting Mississippi beat us. I went to an Egg Bowl game up there and they had Emeril on the big screen talking up the Rebels and leading their Hotty Toddy cheer. A fan told me they get a different famous personality for each game. Their media team is creative. Getting them on The Season was a great coup. They make it easy for ESPN so they get more exposure. We prefer to blame the media and feel sorry for ourselves. Typical State attitude.
This all day long. In my younger days, there were times when I skated close to #2 - fussing at people made me uncomfortable, or I'd think "they won't change even if I do talk to them," and the end result was problems would simmer, then suddenly boil over, and you find yourself having to make a sudden, chaotic change, which often creates whole new sets of problems.Having seen people who were genuinely shocked about being fired, they typically fall into two camps:
1) They've been getting regular feedback that they needed to improve but didn't think it was that serious.
2) They are under poor leadership who increasingly gets frustrated with their work product but does not have meetings with them to discuss their need for improvement and then just breaks one day firing them.
I consider both cases failures in leadership. Communicating your expectations to your team in a clear way is on you as a leader.
We weren't too far from seeing hype videos like this from creative.
it's fair to everyone. Letting someone go from a job they aren't good at enables them to go find somewhere they can succeed. This all day long. Nowadays when somebody's slipping, I tell them early and often, "Hey man, what we need you to do is X, and if you don't do X, here are the problems it causes." If they keep slipping, I keep giving them feedback, but also start working out who their replacement is going to be. When I've got their replacement lined up and ready, or at least identified, I make the switch.
So who knows ... maybe it's the result of bad management, or maybe these guys knew it was coming but are trying to save face and act surprised.
Well….SOMEBODY has to be made an example********We win 0 conference games and get rap-ed by Toledo and we let our media team go... sounds about right.
Is there really a large demand for this? I have never thought 'well since I'm not watching the game, I will go to Twitter to find out the score'.how about score updates on game day after half?
My main beef with this is simple.
From 2012-2019, Mississippi State was top 10, maybe top five in the nation in our marketing/social media/stuff this team does. We lost a lot of talent to Oklahoma, Clemson and others, and replaced it with lesser talent that would not be poached. We went so bad with this last group that someone thought it better that we scrap the whole thing and start over. Watch where they end up. My guess is most of them will leave college athletics, and the one that worked for Saban may land a Group of 5 gig.
But this is indicative of one of the major issues I have with MSU and Mississippi. We'd rather have mediocre talent that will stay a long time than take on elite talent that might look for a better job. It never bothered me that Mullen was always looking for another job because it meant he was in demand. He was in demand because he was winning football games.
If I could snap my fingers and get the entire MSU fanbase on the same page on any issue it would be this. Who cares if we get poached every year. It means we're doing stuff right.
Exactly. That’s real accountability !We win 0 conference games and get rap-ed by Toledo and we let our media team go... sounds about right.
It's the same way we hire professors and coaches. It's the Mark Keenum way.
