I was highly disappointed when they put out an Egg Bowl Game Day pic calling it “Black Friday Battle” Huh? Yeah, it was on black Friday but the game has never been called that. Why go there? Super odd and dumb, imo. It’s why these kid’s stay in so much trouble and can’t keep a job. They assume what they do is cool and everyone else will think it too and they never seek out information from someone in the know. There’s a lot of history with the egg bowl, use it to make a graphic!

HR is going to want you to have a file for the very reason of avoiding litigation. Particularly with protected class. It’s also common decency.
HR may have a reason, but obviously you haven’t been around a lot of letting go (which is good for you). Decency? A company could care less about decency over covering their butt.

I know how corporations act but there was no reason to be all corporate here. But common decency is just secondary.

From their side of the story they were blindsided which means they never even got a warning of any sort. Which is nuts to me. I couldn’t fire someone without multiple written warnings

They didn't deserve one. He sucks at his job.
I agree they were bad at it but they clearly didn’t know that. And I don’t agree with that at all. They should have gotten written warnings after the terrible hype videos.

I’ve seen that too. But it’s the exception, not the norm (from what I’ve seen).
ETA: you are only hearing one side of the story. Remember that.

I'll tell you this. They are all whining on social media and making it worse. They will have a hard time getting a job in collegiate athletics again based on their public responses on social media.

I agree, that's the first thing I thought. Who posts that they just got fired?

They were awful at their jobs and it wasn't just yesterday. I also agree that if they are shocked at their firing, the people in charge of them did a very poor job in leadership. As obvious as it should have been to them that they were failing, if they were not given clear guidance on what to improve upon then we have problems above them that need to be addressed. Maybe they were given guidance and just suck and this is all sour grapes. IDK. Only have one side of that story. Them going on social media and acting like morons certainly isn't good for their career going forward.

Just another area where we are letting Mississippi beat us. I went to an Egg Bowl game up there and they had Emeril on the big screen talking up the Rebels and leading their Hotty Toddy cheer. A fan told me they get a different famous personality for each game. Their media team is creative. Getting them on The Season was a great coup. They make it easy for ESPN so they get more exposure. We prefer to blame the media and feel sorry for ourselves. Typical State attitude.

Having seen people who were genuinely shocked about being fired, they typically fall into two camps:

1) They've been getting regular feedback that they needed to improve but didn't think it was that serious.

2) They are under poor leadership who increasingly gets frustrated with their work product but does not have meetings with them to discuss their need for improvement and then just breaks one day firing them.

I consider both cases failures in leadership. Communicating your expectations to your team in a clear way is on you as a leader.
This all day long. In my younger days, there were times when I skated close to #2 - fussing at people made me uncomfortable, or I'd think "they won't change even if I do talk to them," and the end result was problems would simmer, then suddenly boil over, and you find yourself having to make a sudden, chaotic change, which often creates whole new sets of problems.

Nowadays when somebody's slipping, I tell them early and often, "Hey man, what we need you to do is X, and if you don't do X, here are the problems it causes." If they keep slipping, I keep giving them feedback, but also start working out who their replacement is going to be. When I've got their replacement lined up and ready, or at least identified, I make the switch.

So who knows ... maybe it's the result of bad management, or maybe these guys knew it was coming but are trying to save face and act surprised.

Up until Tuesday night there were 2 “creative/social media” teams within the AD. One for football and one for all of the other sports. It’s entirely possible that the team for football was eliminated as a cost saving move. The NCAA has changed some of the social media rules involving official visits and a smaller staff might be able to handle what’s needed.

it's fair to everyone. Letting someone go from a job they aren't good at enables them to go find somewhere they can succeed.

Tbh, if they were any good Cohen would have got them to go to Auburn.

Fired for no reason? I'm guessing sleeping in on national signing day was pretty much it, gang.

how about score updates on game day after half?
Is there really a large demand for this? I have never thought 'well since I'm not watching the game, I will go to Twitter to find out the score'.

Just Google the score. Or go to espn and get the score as well as details on why the score is what it is.

But I admittedly don't care that MSU Media is worse on Twitter than OM Media, so I am probably not a good example of what fans want.

My main beef with this is simple.

From 2012-2019, Mississippi State was top 10, maybe top five in the nation in our marketing/social media/stuff this team does. We lost a lot of talent to Oklahoma, Clemson and others, and replaced it with lesser talent that would not be poached. We went so bad with this last group that someone thought it better that we scrap the whole thing and start over. Watch where they end up. My guess is most of them will leave college athletics, and the one that worked for Saban may land a Group of 5 gig.

But this is indicative of one of the major issues I have with MSU and Mississippi. We'd rather have mediocre talent that will stay a long time than take on elite talent that might look for a better job. It never bothered me that Mullen was always looking for another job because it meant he was in demand. He was in demand because he was winning football games.

If I could snap my fingers and get the entire MSU fanbase on the same page on any issue it would be this. Who cares if we get poached every year. It means we're doing stuff right.
