The team we saw today was the exact same team that played every week this season.

Fortunately, PSU has 10 teams on their schedule that Kansas State could throttle.

The offense is a complete dumpster fire (despite one of the most veteran offensive lines in the country, the "best TE room in the country", 2 supposed superstar RBs, and a QB that was being hyped as a future Heisman winner).
The defense - which has the potential, IMO, to be very solid - plays grab-azz high school schemes designed to wreck havoc and build up stats against dog teams, but predictably breaks down against good competition. (the same philosophy that has led to several pink slips for Diaz). The performance in the red zone today was clownish.

Diaz will, of course, be off to gr$$n$r pastures in a few months... but the nature of the program (soft, poorly-prepared, poser) is unlikely to change.

It is what it is, obviously.

Yeah I don’t agree on the defense. They can’t pitch a shut out and never give up a 3rd down conversion. the other team is allowed to make plays. That last Michigan TD wasn’t on the D. You hold #3 in the country to under 100 yards passing you should win that game.

True, but UM only threw 8 times the entire game - and completed 7. They ran the ball 46 times/227/4.9 ypc and didn't need to throw because the PSU O was well, not good. OTOH, PSU, who ran well statistically too, was also held to under 100 yards passing on 15 more attempts - 11/23 for a grand total of 74 yards. Ugh.

Michigan had what, maybe 1 or 2 pass attempts the second half and still won

Officially, they had none in the 2nd half. What they did have was wiped out by penalty.

Reminded me very much of the OSU game. Defense for the most part plays well enough to win (14 points allowed) but offense is MIA. Allar looks clueless and running game is OK but not a threat to Michigan's D. Even last TD possession (aided by penalties) was very similar. OTOH, Michigan might have tried to score more points if they thought there was a chance PSU would score.

Still can't figure out if the pedestrian running game is due to the OL not holding blocks or lack of concern with PSU's receivers.

Offense has very little cohesion. Everybody looking to the sidelines while the play clock runs down, changing positions, pointing, talking, etc. Maybe it's not a problem for execution but it seems unnecessarily complicated and disruptive.

Drew looks like Hackenberg at times but I think it's just where he is right now on the path to greatness. Next year he could be unstoppable

Agree completely. We can't win against the big boys running the ball. So why do we continue shooting our selves in the foot? Give Allar 4 targets to throw and if none are open run for it and fall forward for 2 yards at least with that 6'5" frame.

Allar needs open receivers to pass to, did not see to many today and when 1 was wide open for a TD deep he checked down.
Allar has accuracy issues. His passes were off all game including the 4th down conversion to K. Saunders. He struggles putting the ball in the right spot for receivers to keep their momentum. There were many examples of this today, noticeably on the 2nd and short pass to Meiga. It actually wasn’t a bad play call as the defense was off the ball but Drew threw it behind Meiga and it allowed their D to swarm to the ball causing a loss of yards.
A great trait for a QB is ball placement and right now Drew doesn’t have it.

I was not able to watch much of the game, but one (short) possession in the first half drove me nuts.

1st and 10: Allen for 9 yards
2nd and 1: Screen pass for a loss of 1 yard (no one there to block)
3rd and 2: Allar for 1 yard
4th and 1: Punt

You can’t get one yard on 2nd down? You can’t get two yards on 3rd down? For f*ck’s sake.

My favorite was when we had 4th and 1, lined up to go for it, called a TO, then came out with the punt team! We called a TO to punt!! That’s some Seinfeld sh*t right there!!

I would love to know who talked who out of going for it (punting was the right decision). Forget Allar panicking, whoever was calling for going for it that early, that deep in our own territory was panicking. Franklin does a lot of great things for the program. Offensive play calling in big games is not one of them. I realize there was poor execution at times, but coaching on the offensive side of the ball doesn't seem to be overcoming or helping in that regard.

Not when your QB throws for 70.

EDIT: I know this was previously mentioned, but since on3 still lacks a delete button…

Absolutely 95 percent. Take what the defense gives you. Run Allen for at least another yard and get the first down. Why summon your innermost Canada and throw the screen. It isn’t umass damn it!!
He 100 percent had to punt there no question!! He almost went for it and I hear cephas was out of place. So they called the timeout. Then punted and I think when franklin gives himself time to think about it or to get feedback from coaches he does the right thing and punts. I wish cephas lined up wrong with 4 minutes to go.

Franklin always talks the talk, take what the defense gives you etc, but never walks the walk.

So make a motion then Barry. A&M doesn't give a **** about contracts. Other schools don't say we are stuck with so and so because we owe them so much.

Had to call timeout cuz Cephas was lost in the formation as Allar kept waving to him to go in motion.

To cover Franklin’s buyout, could PSU impose a “Maintenance Fee” as part of student tuition? Asking for Neeli.
