We've had plenty of coaches that could recruit as good or better on much less money. Don't take this as a fire DM post, it is not. I think he has all the tools to be a great coach, but it is easy to call plays well with the talent he had at FL. Now he has to go find that talent and get them to stay with MSU. Different story.
