UK joint partnership with JMI off to a good start. Flush with cash. Looks to have beeen a good decision.

I'm all for anything that helps the program no matter who is right and who is wrong about it

So we do have money and the reason we can't get good recruits is because the coach sucks? Not hard to believe.
So there's money available, but these elite kids still don't want to play for Kentucky? Could it be because we have a head coach who speaks in DungeonsAndDragoneese when he starts communicating with anyone?

Starting to feel good about Stokes. He's the type of player that can overlook Popes dorkiness. He might want the challenge. He knows wherever he goes he will be in the NBA next season. Maybe he takes a chance on being the face of Kentucky basketball for a season.

I don't think he's the fix for Popes problems but if Pope is going to be here regardless I want Stokes next year.

I would love it if the JMI deal was good for UK and it might be but I clicked the link and read and there was no debunking of anything. The deal with JMI is incredible for UK according to a JMI spokesman and a finance guy that works at UK and apparently helped set up the deal. This article is pretty much a JMI press release.

The cash isn’t the issue. The issue is they have stipulations that are trash that Playfly and learfield don’t have. It’s why nobody in the SEC went with them except Kentucky.

JMI is an issue and Pope seals the deal. They don’t like the stipulations and agents then see pope / look over at Mitch / see the pressure to go with JMI partners and say it’s not even worth the risk.

JMI is a small outfit. They don’t have the power of the others. It’s Kentucky UCLA Pitt then a slew of minor league programs. They cannot get major players and Mitch gave them Kentucky.

Not reading the article but the problem with JMI seems to be they get a percentage of players money. Do they or do they not?

UK and north Carolina want to pay a player 5 million but UK is going to take a percentage of that after all the other percentages taken.

So that's the problem Ive seen discussed on here. Somebodys gotta pay Mitch's 1 million a year retirement plan.

Don't feel right seeing you with a name. You were the only good anon
Thank ya brother, I never liked being one & then I kept seeing quite a few negative posts about the "anons" mostly that they're trolls, I couldn't be lumped with that crowd lol. I figured while I was one, having an avatar pic of my GF & i would let posters know I'm a legit Kentucky fan. I use my real name BTW.

I think Stein's performance in the portal already debunked most JMI claims. That and the fact that Pope whiffed on almost every top target last transfer portal before the JMI deal went in place told me that Pope was the root of the recruiting issue.

Hopefully that letter from Brent Selzer (sp) will stop this Mitch crap, that ****** had the nerve to call people knuckleheads that were complaining about his "money for nothing" retirement deal. That $950,000 can be used elsewhere.

The proof is the the pudding. I have a hard time believing recruits are turning down big money just bc Mark is a dork. Money talks, especially in recruiting.
He’s a Mormon. And Mormons have a history of treating black people pretty bad all the way to the 80s. Any black recruit could see Pope and think he’s some racist weirdo. It wouldn’t shock me if his religion is holding him back big time. But even BYU has done better recruiting guys recently. Maybe Pope is one of those super sheltered weirdo Mormons. He certainly acts like one.

Think they get % if player uses uk logo? Not sure though.. And if there is a % they should offset that with lil more $$

I've made multiple replies to posts trying to discuss my thoughts that Pope's Mormonism is probably a huge turn off to recruits. However, I'm always afraid I'm going to get banned for saying it or it doesn't go over well. Sometimes I wonder if they shadow ban comments like that. I've never found anyone who agrees or is interested in having a discussion about it.

You are the first person, other than me, who I've seen bring up that Pope's Mormonism could negatively impact his recruiting (I never brought the race part into this though, but I guess what you said is at least logical).

Doesn’t mean it’s good for the players. If they have to give 10% to JMI to use the UK logo. It hurts them.

All it says is there is money,it says nothing about the contracts they are asking players to sign. Nice try though.

What's the stipulations that are trash ? Looks like more and more schools are doing this. People talk about not being able to use the brand, but thats everywhere unless you pay. Agents said our contracts had things no one else did, but now other schools are following and everything will looks similar

Yes they can go get their own deals but jmi still gets ten percent on those two that is a big problem along with twenty percent also going to the agent.

He shouldn’t even be bringing his religion into it unless they ask about it.

A lot of black people are rightfully going to wonder if this Mormon guy isn’t secretly racist because of some of the screwed parts of their religion that has lasted well into the late 20th century. I mean come on, imagine if someone’s religion literally teaches that God cursed you and thinks that you’re evil. I personally wouldn’t want to be around that person myself. While we’re still getting black recruits under Pope, we may be limiting the number of recruits who are willing to be coached under him.

Mormonism still has a pretty bad racism problem among their ranks and Pope isn’t exactly young.

And if anyone thinks I’m being intolerant of Mormonism, I’m not. I’m pointing out that they have problems that may be considered problematic for a sport that has a large black population.

Yea I get what they are saying ..but I believe Pope is just a odd character take religion out of it. Idc what he was or claimed. He would be odd. Not who you want leading the program.

At first he seemed normal. Thought we were getting this hard worker that understood what Kentucky is. Even if he didnt set the world on fire I figured he would be a decent bandage.

What I didnt know was the guy was a complete weirdo. Seriously. Recruits arent historians but they do have common sense and can see how Pope is. The guy is whatever the complete opposite of cool is.

It’s not the kids who will have questions. It’s the parents. And it’s pretty out in the open about racism and the Mormon religion.

Parents aren't historians either. Stokes mom is probably in her 30's.
It doesn't go that deep with Pope and recruits, especially African Americans.
They just see him as a dorky white guy who's not down to earth and they can't relate to him.
Pope is too " guru".
Most recruits black or white come from working class families and they prefer a straight shooter like Cal over the word salad you get with Pope.
