Thoughts on the Oline this year?

Many of us had concerns (me included) about the oline coming into this year. Some wanted to get rid of coach Traut, thought talent and development were lacking. Just thinking where many are now in their thoughts? I admitted just over half way through the season that the oline was largely improved and much of the credit should go to coach Traut. Really their run blocking improved from last year. Also credit to the players buying into what Traut was teaching them and developing. I have full confidence in coach Traut going forward. To have almost the entire starting line back, with backups that played yesterday that have solid experience and top rated recruits coming in the Oline finally looks to have turned the corner and will become a strength again. The oline never seemed to gain footing ever since the Sandusky sanctions. It looks to me we finally have turned the corner and really have something good to look at going forward. With almost the entire line coming back that will be a huge help for Allar next year getting his feet wet with a solid running game to take pressure off the passing game. These are just my initial thoughts on the year for the oline and was wondering what others thought now.

Note: Just watched the replay several times of Singleton's run, the oline and TE did an amazing job moving and sealing the inside of the dline and TE Warren had a great block downfield to help send Singleton on his way.

well I will say I've been very critical, now that said, something has changed for the better. I dont know what, maybe 3* listen better than 5*, IDK. Maybe Trout hooked up with someone like Stoutland over the summer, IDK. I do know this is one to the finest double team blocks (or is it a combo block) you'll ever see.

I agree.. Looks like Traut finally has recruited kids who are buying into his system.

Well, they got tossed around like rag dolls against Michigan, and again in the 4th quarter against Ohio State, so unless that changes, 11-2 is the ceiling.

BIG improvement from last year. I wouldn't classify them (yet) as top tier but I like the trajectory.

We really struggled to run the ball last year. Sure, a chunk of the improvement can be attributed to the stellar freshman RB's but I noticed holes being created by the OL from time to time.

Yup not sure what changed if anything. Maybe just took the existing players time to learn his techniques. Whatever changed there has been a big step forward and I am really looking forward to next year.

1 other note... anyone have thoughts or heard why Caeden Wallace played in the 2nd half? Not sure why he didn't play in the 1st half or start. Maybe I missed the announcers making note of the reason?

I was cautiously optimistic but needed to see it manifest itself during a game. For me it was the Auburn game where I thought hey we're pretty good.
And the job Truat, Franklin and the players did after Olu and Wallace went down was nothing short of fantastic.
I also don't think Norzad will be the weak link others seems to think he will be.

Norzad had an excellent block on Singleton's long run yesterday he collapsed the whole side of the dline and sealed it off opening up a nice hole for Singleton

Yes, actually saw the oline getting movement and a push creating nice holes for the RBs, not just creases or cracks for them.

On Singleton's run, Utah wasn't ready at all, and that was Clifford's doing. He acted like he was going to change the play, or call out some indicator to his offensive line, and then some Utah players stood up, and others looked toward the sideline for their own adjustments ... Clifford, however, quick snapped and caught Utah completely off guard. Yes, the O line did their job there, but they had a lot of help.

OL has improved improved in results and team depth. it of course helps to have the TEs we have and the new RB's. IMHO I think that we may never have had the original 5 OL guys (Fashanu, Tengwall, Scruggs, Wormley and Wallace) playing 100% healthy at the same time. Much of the fall we had mlx of guys on the field.

I think with many Olines, nagging injuries take their toll as the season wears on. The time off prior to the bowl surely helped many of them get much healthier to be able to play better.
With the influx of Oline players coming in, depth can be built and if they are able to play @ a high level (ala Drew Shelton), then that's a bonus.
Traut is doing great work with the OL as is Ty Howell with the TEs. Definitely deserve raises.

I think the OL as well as the offensive schemes have improved over the course of he season. After the opening game against Purdue it looked like the same offensive struggles as previous years. As the season went on, the schemes got better as well as the offensive play calling. However, there have been some boneheaded calls IMO, like a run play on 3rd and 16? Anyways, the offensive play calling and overall performance last night was awesome to watch. On the long TD run, Herbstreet had the ballz to say that the block on the LBs looked liked holding? What a jackarse becaue it was a great block that sprung the long run!!! 11-2 is a great season, I saw improvement this year and I am looking forward to next season, I don't think I have been as excited for next season as I am now in almost a decade or more!!

I think a lot of the improvement running the ball was ditching the RPO and having th OL fire out instead of standing up and staying at the LOS.

I agree and am the same. They have so many starters returning and Allar at qb, I wish fall training camp started next week. Bunch of excitement for next year as I think they have a legit shot at Michigan and OSU finally.

good point - Sean Clifford's greatest strengths at times were pre-snap. post snap is where we all notice the good and the not so good of Sean. in this game he was on pre and post snap. maybe not his best statistical game but a truly complete game. it is too bad we could not have had the starting OL at full health all year. I think that group would have been a load for anyone.
