1. First of all, I think the fact that Dan's name is being mentioned may hurt us with Cam Newton.

2. Second of all, this may cause Willie Martinez to fall in our laps.

3. Threvely, I like Dan, and I would hate to see him leave before he even takes us to a bowl game. I expect him to be gone in about three- four years becuse I think he's good, but at the same time I would hate to think that he would be gone this soon.

4. Who the heck would we get to replace him? I trust Byrne and all, but I think it will be hard to top Dan. But I think it's safe to say that if Dan left, he left us in better shape than when he took over.

I really don't think Dan Mullen will leave for Florida, though. I would think that Florida would want to keep this staff together for the most part.

Still, at least this is positive publicity for MSU football.

This might just help us swing Newton to us now,sence Mullen is talked about alot now.FL wiill go after a proven coach now...

and Mullen is going to be our coach next year, then all our recruits, particularly Newton, will know immediately and in no uncertain terms.

But maybe, just maybe, the talk about Mullen may help us with Cam. You know, just more proof for Newton that Mullen isn't a completely cluless moron. Provided Mullen isn't going anywhere, of course.

Hell, I don't know. I'm trying my best to grow wool here.

they certainly aren't clamoring for Chizek.

And Dan wouldn't be mentioned if people didn't think he was qualified or competent.

I don't consider him to be qualified at this point. He has one year under his belt and went 5-7. Now, he did that with little experienced talent and a tough schedule, but still one 5-7 season isn't exactly what a program like Florida looks for. He would need at least one bowl game before being seriously considered. He's a nice name in their back pocket, and an even better option if Meyer's replacement fails (in 3 years Mullen will have 4 seasons as head coach under his belt and will hopefully have 2-3 bowl games as well). At this point I would be shocked if they hired him.

for the MSU job, he's ready for UF also..

a head coach in the SEC is a head coach in the SEC..

I don't think just simply looking at the 5-7 mark hits the nail square on the head with mulen... you have to look at how good he did as offensive coord over the last 7 or so years as well.. he seems to have a knack at knowing exactly how to spot a defense's weakness and jab at it ...

his name popped up for the kansas job and now the old geezer on espn is spitting his usual jibberish...

I think (and hope) UF goes after utah dude or boise state dude or maybe TCU dude.....

I want mullen around for 3-4 years... I think he is that good..

we will see....no?

Or our head coach for that matter.

I think Kevin Sumllin would be a good fit at UF, personally.

Florida missed on the usual hiring season. A lot of guys have already made their decisions for next year. That is the one thing that makes me think they actually could end up looking at Dan.

When we took Mullen, we took him understanding that he would be a candidate for the UF job if Meyer ever left or bolted for ND. We thought that would be a few years away. With it being after year one, would they be willing to hire a guy that has one year of coaching experience to be the head coach of the best football program in the country? Now, had this been next year and say we go 8-4 and to the Peach Bowl, I would be worried. But he has yet to live out a full recruiting season as a college football head coach.

With that being said, I am worried because I know if UF comes knocking on DM door, he has to take the job. It is the premier job in college sports.

The MSUs of the world are for coaches to gain experience and learn on the job. The Floridas of the world are not. While we are pretty forgiving of mistakes due to inexperience, Florida isn't. They expect their coach to be near perfect. Mullen will be a great candidate in 2-3 years, but I just can't see it today.

Florida just won 2 NCs in the past 4 years. They came within one game this year of playing for another, and likely winning another. I just cannot see Foley hiring a coach who has one 5-7 season under his belt. Maybe he does, but I just cannot see it. Regardless of how great he was as an assistant there (and let's not forget their idiot fans wanted him to leave), he still has one 5-7 season as HC. That's not going to be an easy sell to the fanbase. "Here's the guy we are going to get to replace the guy that just won 2 NCs, a guy with one sub-.500 season under his belt at MState." Would you rather make that announcement or one like this: "We have hired Kyle Whittingham who continued Meyer's success at Utah and has a big time BCS win under his belt?"

then I don't see how it couldn't be Mullen. How many of those other names mentioned want the former coach's presence hanging over them every year, not knowing when he'll decide to re-grace Florida with his presence? Mullen knows (is?) the offensive playcalling, is a known figure in the high schools and living rooms of the state already, and most importantly, could openly collaborate with Meyer without feeling threatened or pushed. It'd be a win-win-win situation for Florida, Meyer, and Mullen. If Meyer came back to UF after several great years under Mullen, Mullen would be the hottest coaching commodity in the country.

Please, please, please let me be wrong about all of this.

I do agree- I think Whittingham would be a much more likely target than Mullen.

There are some unknowns with Mullen- like how he would prepare for a bowl. Whittingham, not so much.
