I saw Shapen is #10 at QB grades on PFF. For reference Tyrene Green and D. Pavia are #15 and #16. Milroe checking in at #21. Carson Beck and Sawyer Robertson at #36 and #37, respectively.

PFF measures grades as a pro player, correct? I'm more worried about how they play in college, rather than how they project at the next level.

This is espn qbr and is up to date. Every qb listed is a playoff team except for SR and the only players not seniors are Milroe and Sawyer. MVB is 47th for comparison.
Sawyer will be on preseason Heisman lists next year and will be in an NFL training camp. Impressive.

Smooth brain response. You bet he will. Top returning passer numbers in the country. Better numbers than Heisman winner RG3 who was from Baylor.

Aw darn- you edited your post and added that word in! I was hoping this could turn into a 'guess the adjective' game.
My guess was GOATER, as in 'when i thought there wasnt anyone GOATER than GOAT on these boards'.

...it means the same thing you posted though, so I woulda gotten .5 credit.

RG3 added 700 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns

Baylor was also a 10 win team that season and ranked.

Top returning passer by some ESPN metric?? He's not in the top 50 in passing yards or top 20 in TD's this season. He's a absolutely nobody in the national QB picture.. as is baylor as a football team.

bad combo to be considered for the heisman

Malik Murphy is a bigger name at the QB position and people will probably have to look up where he's QB-ing right now.

and yet they're 6-4 and 5th place in conference. Robertson is in pretty good company there, but if you don't have a Defense to help the team while you are sitting on the bench resting, I guess results can be quickly watered down.

Why isnt he on heisman's list this year?

He wont even make 1st or 2nd team all-conference. He's 8th in his own league in passing yards and not even in the top 3 in touchdown passes.

He's a solid QB but a nobody on the national picture.

Wonder how many QBs on average teams, that dont even make 1st or 2nd team all conference will make pre-season heisman watch lists???

Just when i thought you couldn’t get dumber you continue to surprise and become an idiot. No one said leach couldn’t recruit QBs . He and his staff specifically failed to recruit OL and DL and why we are in the shape we are in now. And one class(this past years under Lebby) isn’t gonna make up for the lack of players we needed to be competitive.

I don’t think so. These grades measure how each is performing this year. If you multiplied out Shapen’s numbers they’d be very similar to Shauder Sanders. I doubt he would have maintained that pace, and SS brings a rushing threat. So, his overall offensive grade is quite a bit higher, but still. He was on a nice pace.

Leach’s QB recruiting was fine. Although Locke and Will Rogers aren’t doing much, and Chris Parsons can’t get on the field here. It was the rest of the roster that was questionable. You could make a real argument that MSU isn’t ever going to be too much better than “questionable” though.

Yes he couldn’t coach or recruit, it’s amazing he went 9-4. Thank Goodness we’ve finally achieved 2-10

Mr Mackey says it often at the start of his comments I was thinking. Along with the M'kay at the end of his sentences. Maybe I'm wrong but I can hear him in my head right now.

No one is saying that. He was 19-17 in 3 seasons at MSU. That’s decent, and we seemed to be trending up. But we clearly weren’t bringing in defensive talent at a high rate. It’s not like we lost a bunch of DL, CB and Safety to the transfer portal.

Either way - he died. It’s not like we fired him through some controversial process. What is there to argue about?

They have somehow got this notion that everyone hated Leach and they’re on a crusade to prove everyone wrong. It’s really strange.

16 semi finalists for the college QB of the year were announced... he wasnt on it.. despite his 6th best QBR. Must be a misprint.

7 were underclassmen.... heisman watch list is going to be long next year..

24 TDs and 4 INTs #6 Nationally in QBR. One more season to come next year.

He will get plenty of attention from NFL scouts

As someone that is on the side with the crusaders, I think it is safe to say that we are most upset about the trending up part of Strat's post. I think many of us began to feel like that was the year that Leach was going to make a big run, but of course, he died. Now to Strat's point, we were not bringing in world beating defensive talent, and I would agree decent is a great world to describe the Leach era of State football. I also have come to believe that just the shock of his death is something that many of us that supported him are really still not over.

I guess being the Devil you get used to controversy, but I have always thought in terms of doing more with less as coach Mike Leach is a great coach. I have always thought that, in terms of just a person, there might not have ever been a better one that ever walked the earth. To sum up, I think he was a B- to B+ coach and A+++++++++++++++ person. I also think we should do something at DWS to honor Leach. Maybe not a statue or ring of honor, but something maybe as simple as just a pirate flag being flown.

#6 QBR yet cant even make a 1st or 2nd team all-conference in such a strong conference like the big12.... HAS GOT to be a MISPRINT

plenty? so he's going to get drafted?

This keeps getting better.....so far we have: heisman watch list and plenty of NFL attention

its 20 TD's too... not 24. at least keep an accurate count if your giving the guy BJs.

I don’t know how many times this has to be repeated but here it is again… Leach died, he wasn’t ran off to another place, he wasn’t fired He died…
And no he didn’t recruit well on the OL and DL. That’s the reason we are struggling. His staff was awful at evaluating talent and due to the terrible evaluation and signing during the Covid year, miss evals in 22 and passing away before the 23 class was signed we were gutted. Add to that when all the talent that he inherited or in his defense was able to get graduated last year you are left with a roster like the one we have now. ZA and staff didn’t help matters in fact they made them worse by not even trying to recruit and one reason Selmon pulled the plug on ZA mid season. And no it wasn’t the good ol boy calling the shots on RTDB, that was ZA being meathead

So you and goat can talk all day about how leach did this or that, but neither of you or others want to admitt this current roster is full of players who are not talented enough to compete day in day out in the SEC. In fact the most valuable and talented players are the ones Lebby signed in only a few weeks on the job. And you can’t rebuild the holes left in a first years coach first class. Look at ASU this year as an example.
