Yesterday, and the obvious coaching disaster, may have been the turning point that will lead to the end of the Franklin reign of error. I do not mean anytime soon, that foolish contract given to him shelters him. But it will not likely get any better for him, the fans are on to his happy talk BS.
The fans turned on him in the stadium. Boos and challenges yelled at him for his performance, and not that of his team. The message boards are dominated with criticism of his record of coaching in games that matter. People have had it.
Universal criticism in the media has been aimed at Franklin for his coaching performance. You will not find a single local newspaper report or national media member offering anything other than a severe criticism of Franklins game decisions and coaching. Not a single person.
Watch and read the often criticized Dave Jones. He and Bob Flounders were right on in their postgame remarks. Jones asked a question about going for two that Franklin was "obviously" unprepared to answer at his press conference. That left numerous media members, and even the Franklin apologists on the staff of the Penn State oriented web sites, shaking their heads. It displayed Franklins professional incompetence.
Try to find anyone on the staff at BWI, 247 or any of the other websites defending his coaching in big games. Anyone?
The fans can now recognize Franklin is a bottom feeder, fattening his record in games that have no import. And what is his record? A 63% winning percentage in the B1G. People know that is not elite. As for the Franklin apologists, obvious lovers of bottom feeders, I am sure they prefer catfish and flounder to swordfish.
And what do his defenders say? "Quit watching if you don't like it." Guess what? Kraft and everyone that matters at Penn State are praying that does not happen. They need a full stadium, merch sales, NIL donations, and pledges for the new stadium. If even ten percent of the fan base gets turned off the financial impact will be devastating. Wait to read Grim Reaper if that happens.
